Class – VI - OPG World School

Dear Parent
The school will break up for summer vacation on 15th May 2017 and reopen on 3rd July 2017. It’s a long
time away from the school for the children and if they completely forsake their books during the
vacation they are likely to struggle when they join back. The vacations therefore have to be a healthy
mix of play and work. They are a wonderful time for self-learning and therefore the work given should
be done by the children with your occasional guidance. Perhaps what you can do is space out the work
given to them in such a way that they not only enjoy doing it but finish it well within time. Rewards can
be in the form of visits to the monuments, taking them to watch a good movie, enrolling for a theatre
workshop or buying board games or just a simple old fashioned story book!
Reading maketh a man! There are multiple spin-offs of reading: strengthening of language skills,
therefore, improvement in other subjects; sparking of imagination and ideas; calming influence in
these times of constant agitation and distraction; improvement in general knowledge, and above all, a
subtle refining of character. Make them a member of a neighbourhood library and if the
neighbourhood has none then take them to one of the public libraries. Delhi has quite a few. And if
even that is not available try the online ones!
We would also be putting our list of recommended reading on the school website along with the
holiday homework.
Writing is a natural consequence of reading! The more a child reads the better is his writing. Encourage
your child to maintain a journal/diary. He can just pen his thoughts. Let this be a private dialogue
between him and his diary! It’ll make him reflect, think and calm him down. Rereading what they have
written may give them a whole new perspective on things. The theme for the school magazine this
year is What a wonderful world. Motivate them to write on the theme and mail their contributions to
[email protected]. Drawings, sketches etc. too are welcome and can be handed over
to the respective class teachers once they come back.
Lot of learning happens outside the classroom. Though we are giving them homework in just one more
subject other than Hindi and English we suggest that you supplement that with visits to these:
National Museum of Natural History, National Science Center Museum, National Rail Museum,
Sanskriti Kendra Terracotta & Metal Museum, Shankar's International Dolls Museum, Election
museum, National Agricultural Science Museum. National Gallery of Modern Art, National Children's
Museum, National handicraft and handlooms Museum, Jantar Mantar Delhi
These visits will add value to what they have been taught in the classroom.
The details of holiday homework can be accessed from the parent portal on the school website.
We look forward to having the children back in the school in July.
Regards
Class Teacher
