Valentine Mug Rug Just for you or for your quilting buddies! Size: approximately 6½" across What you’ll need: Scraps (see cutting requirements below) 24” Rick Rack Trim 7” square batting Cutting Requirements Fabric Qty Size Scraps 9 2” squares 2 Half circles using template 1 7” square each Backing and Batting General Sewing Instructions: 1. All seams are ¼" unless otherwise noted. 2. Chain piece when possible to save time. 3. Have fun! Assembly 1. Piece 3 rows of (3) 2” squares together, and assemble into 9-patch block measuring 5” square (Fig. 1). 2. Sew half circles to adjacent sides of the block (Fig. 2). 3. Place heart over batting square. Sew rick rack trim all around heart shape as shown, overlapping at the heart’s point (Fig. 3). 4. Place backing fabric square right sides together over heart. 5. From the batting side, sew around heart shape (following previous stitching), leav- Fig. 1 ing a 2”-3” opening along flat side of the heart shape (Fig. 4). 6. Trim close to stitching. 7. Pull heart to right side through opening. Hand stitch closed. 8. Attach walking foot and stitch ¼’ from edge all around. Add some machine or hand quilting in the center (Fig. 5). 9. Have a hot cup of joe, and enjoy your new mug rug!
