intended to be the focal point
of the room. “The homeowners weren’t afraid to use bold
colors,” says Covino.

“Before, the interior was very mature,” says Julieann Covino. “We used a mix of retail, custom,
and online sources to create a place with lots of
pattern that’s fun and very kid-friendly.”

hen they moved from a small
apartment in the city into this
spacious Colonial home in Waban,
the new owners, who have three small children, knew they wanted to redecorate with a
fresher, younger vibe. “It was very traditional
New England; the colors were mustard, olive
green, and rust,” says interior designer Julieann
Covino of Jace Interiors. In the family room and
adjacent front hall, Covino worked to create a
sense of fun, relying on moderately priced retail
furnishings with a few custom pieces, as well as
some inexpensive finds, sprinkled in. Now that
the space is awash in bright colors, cheerful
patterns, and comfortable furniture, the family
feels right at home, she says.
