3) Give three reasons why Rome succeeded as a civilization:
-a strong army: trade, conquest, protection
-resourceful: could grow their own food (not reliant on others, develop new technologies)
-aggressive Emperors: helped Rome grow
-great geographical location: fertile soil, plenty of rainfall and sunshine, good climate, large
population->helped build and economy, trade routes because of the M. Sea
4) Look carefully at page 8 picture. What do you think these two people were like? Why do we
value ancient works of art?
