PRESS WEEK 2016 • Press Week was held in early February 22nd time. • During the week we focused on the reliability of the media and source criticism, with the theme “Is this true?” • Most of the Newspapers that belong to the Finnish Newspapers Association took part in Press Week. Almost 700,000 newspapers were delivered to schools and other institutions of learning IS THIS TRUE? PRESS WEEK 2016 • In Press Week advertisments we encouraged to be critical to sources and learn to check the facts MINISTRY PROPOSES: SCHOOL WINTER BREAK CANCELLED! Believe it or not – but please have some source criticism and learn to check the facts! STUDY MATERIAL ON MEDIA RELIABILITY During Newspaper Week, new learning material was published that provide the tools for source criticism and weighing media reliability. STUDY MATERIAL ON MEDIA RELIABILITY Material demonstrate the reliability of the media from six current perspectives. • • • • • • the online chat culture narrowing the difference between opinion and fact fake news troll factories border between advertising and journalism ‘the truth as pictured’ Journalistic guidelines and how journalism differs from all other content are examined in the material.
