From the Principal’s Desk
Hello MVCS Community,
Wow! It has been an amazing beginning to what promises to be a year of growth and excitement at Lost Coast High
Learning Center. Starting with a dedicated student body, with parents and guardians willing to avail themselves to promote our learning community, a dynamic and palpable feeling is in the air.
Our BTSN, which was informative and well attended, solidified what we already knew; this is going to be a year of opportunities for our students. The courses that are being offered at LCHLC are A-G and filled with invigorating prospects
for learning to take place. While Apex continues to provide us with excellent CP material, our program has morphed
into a hybrid look. Highly qualified teachers are teaching in their subject areas and students are receiving a rich education in English, Math, Science and History. Using many Avid strategies, our teachers are promoting rigor and depth of
learning in their classrooms. Our students are rising to the occasion and turning out quality work.
Our CP elective courses are exciting as well. Culinary Arts continues to turn out exciting dishes that feed the LCH community. Homemade doughnuts and fresh pasta were the latest creations that pleased everyone. Photography class is
equitably amazing. Students are working on composition and preparing themselves to show their work in one of the upcoming Art’s Alive. Avid elective, our newest class, is wonderful! Students continue to set personal and educational
goals that encourage them to reach beyond the status quo.
Outside of academic choices available at LCH, our student athletes are going above and beyond what was expected of
them. Running for MTJHS, our coaches have informed us that they have confidence LCH cross country runners will
place in the top 10 in H-DN counties by end of season. This is an enormous accomplishment for a small learning center,
such as we are at LCH. As we continue to build our running program with the tireless help of Jennifer Johnson and
Shaun Lyle, we are also hoping to field a track team this spring.
I am expecting that this will be a wonderful, productive year in which our students will shine as stars in Humboldt County and beyond. Though we are small, we are mighty. With the help of our staff and community at large, I believe we
can do anything!

Culinary Arts at Lost Coast High!
The Culinary Arts class is doing an amazing job this
semester. Our chefs are working hard to gain new
skills. Reno Giovannetti came in to teach us how to
make pasta from scratch and everyone walked away
excited about making pasta at home. Thank you,
Reno!!!
Some of the notable dishes that we have made were
pretzels and buttermilk biscuits with gravy. The
students also participated in a chopped competition in
which students were able to demonstrate their cooking
creativity and teamwork.
We are still looking for supplies or donations for our
class. Please let us know if you are interested in
donating. A bake sale at Pierson’s will be coming up
soon! ~ Kara Martin
