Gross provided an update on County Executive Edward A. Diana’s recovery following liver transplant surgery Saturday. “I have been in regular contact with Mr. Diana’s family over the past 24 hours and am happy to share that after nearly 9 hours of surgery, doctors report that everything went according to plan,” said Gross. “Mr. Diana is resting comfortably at Columbia Hospital’s Critical Care recovery unit and is awake and talking. Doctors say he will be in the hospital for two to three weeks and then go home under close medical supervision.” Joined by County leadership and members of the legislature, Gross also discussed the plans for transition and continuity of government during Diana’s recovery period. “We’ve had more than a year to prepare for this event to ensure the continuity of government operations,” said Gross. “Elected officials, County commissioners, department heads, and employees understand what is necessary to serve the residents of Orange County. We are fortunate to have true professionals and a top notch workforce who have a commitment to serve,” added Gross. During the County Executive’s recovery, County Government will continue to operate with contingencies that were planned long in advance and are now in place. Furthermore, pursuant to Section 3.03 of the Orange County Charter, County Executive Diana designated Gross to assume the responsibilities of the Office of County Executive during his recovery. Chairman of the Orange County Legislature Michael R. Pillmeier added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with our good friend and colleague Ed Diana and his family at this time. We wish him all the best for a speedy recovery and a quick return to Orange County. As Chairman of the Legislature, I have full faith and confidence in the transition plan that has been put into place by the County Executive and know that under the leadership of - More - Steven Gross, the needs of the people of Orange County will continue to be served,” continued Pillmeier. In closing, Gross asked the people of Orange County to remember Mr. Diana and his family in their thoughts and prayers and wish him well for a quick return to good health.
