Let’s Get Ready and Unigo.com Partner to Provide Underserved
Students a Better Chance to get into College
Let’s Get Ready joins Unigo’s ‘Access For All’ program to deliver innovative
college readiness curriculum for free to students online
New York, NY – November 29, 2012
Let’s Get Ready (www.letsgetready.org) has joined Unigo.com’s new program,
Access For All (www.unigo.com/accessforall), to provide innovative college
readiness materials for underserved high school students.
Let’s Get Ready is a results-driven nonprofit organization that mobilizes and
trains volunteer college student “coaches” as tutors and mentors who provide
free SAT preparation classes, college admissions counseling, and
encouragement to thousands of underserved students via its specially designed
programs throughout the Northeast. With more than 70 program locations, Let’s
Get Ready has been expanding college access since 1998 by providing college
admissions guidance along with the inspiration students need to succeed. Best of
all, many high school students who attend Let’s Get Ready become program
volunteer coaches (tutors) and site directors when they enter college.
Unigo.com is a website with over 250,000 college reviews by current students
and thousands of pieces of advice from admissions experts available for free to
students at any time. Recently, Unigo released the first online college readiness
course that walks students through the entire admissions and financial aid
processes, and features past and present admissions officers from Stanford
University, Princeton University, MIT, Columbia University, and more.
Unigo’s Access For All program allows Let’s Get Ready participants to use
Unigo’s innovative online admissions course to research for, organize, and
prepare their college applications with step-by-step guidance from top
admissions experts. In addition, as the launching partner for Unigo’s Access For
All program, Let’s Get Ready will facilitate focus groups among students for
product feedback to enhance the course materials for not only their own, but all
Unigo users.
“Unigo has always been fans of Let’s Get Ready, and our common mission of
expanding college access made them a perfect launch partner for our new
program,” said Jordan Goldman, CEO of Unigo. “We both believe that
underserved students need more information and support to navigate the
increasingly complicated admissions process, and the combination of Let’s Get
Ready coaches with Unigo Access gives them the best chance to find and get
accepted to the best college for them.”
The need for college guidance has never been higher in the US. On average,
students outnumber counselors 470:1, and in many urban areas the ratio
exceeds 1,000:1, meaning students get between 15-30 minutes of college
counseling per year. For a decision that can impact lifetime earnings by $1.2
million dollars (87% per year), more needs to be done to assist these students in
realizing that going to college is an option, and provide them with the tools
necessary to make the transition.
“We’re excited to give our students access to Unigo’s innovative tools to help
guide them through the college application process,” said Lauri Novick, Executive
Director of Let’s Get Ready. “Having access to these materials at all times
means our students will get the best information available as they make one of
the biggest decisions in their lives.”
