Soap Clouds Need • • • • • Ivory soap Wax paper Microwave Bowl How • Put the Ivory soap in the microwave for two minutes What • Have the children watch the microwave when you turn it on • They will see the soap turn into a could • Then have the children make their own mini soap • Let them smash it into pieces in a bowl • Add warm water slowly until it clumps • Use this mixture to put into cookie cutter shapes • Allow it to dry for a couple of minutes • Push the soap out of the cookie cutter • Allow to completely dry for two days Our Best Bites. Need • • • • • Baking soda Vinegar Plastic bottle Balloon Funnels How • • • • • • The kids can help do this entire experiment Use the funnel to fill the bottle 1/3 with vinegar Using a dry funnel fill the balloon ½ full with baking soda Then put the balloon over the lid of the bottle making sure not to let the baking soda fall into the bottle Lift up the balloon and let the baking soda mix with the vinegar and observe Watch the mixture bubble and the balloon fill with gas What • • • Explain to the students the reaction occurring in front of their eyes The baking soda and vinegar are reacting with one another releasing a gas The gas is expanding and needs somewhere to go, which is into the balloon. If using a picture, glue the picture onto the sticks Use the x-acto knife to separate the sticks Then shuffle up the sticks and enjoy. What • • • Have the children solve the puzzle. They can even help make their own puzzle. Make sure to supervise them while using the scissors or x-acto knife That’s so Cuegly http://cuegly.blogspot.com/2011/09/75-kid-activities.html Bouncing Balls Need • • • • • • • Borax corn starch Elmer's Glue-All warm water food color (optional) measuring spoons 2 bowls How • • • • • • • • • • • The kids can help do this entire experiment In bowl 1, Add 2 tablespoons of warm water Add ½ teaspoon of Borax Stir and add food coloring In bowl 2, Add in 1 tablespoon of Elmer’s glue Add ½ teaspoon from bowl #1 Add 1 tablespoon of corn starch Without stirring, let sit for 15 minutes Then mix ingredients until it becomes firm Pick it up and quickly mold it into a ball Feel free to try bouncing your new ball!!! Baked Cotton Balls Need • • • • • • • Cotton Balls 1 cup flour 1 cup water Food coloring Bowls Greased cookie sheet Oven How • • • Mix 1 cup of water with 1 cup of flour( add more water if too thick) Pour into separate bowls for different colors Add drops of food coloring to the bowls What • • • • • • Have the children dip the cotton balls in the mixture Make sure the cotton balls are fully coated Place them on a greased cookie sheet Bake for 45- 1 hour at 300 degrees If the balls are touching they will bake together (try letters, numbers, and names!)
