Legacy – What Is Yours? 1978 produced a film that has left a legacy of humor and one liners for generations – Animal House. If you are under the age of 25 and have no idea what I am talking about… you need to watch this classic film! In the movie is a telling scene when the Delta Tau Chi fraternity is voting on new pledges. A picture of Ken Dorfman, a “legacy” from Harrisburg, comes up on the screen and he gets boos and cat calls. As a “legacy”, his dad had been a member of Delta Tau Chi and that legacy is generally given significance by fraternities when selecting new pledges. In the end, one of the chapter’s leaders makes the case for Ken Dorfman a/k/a “Flounder” and his legacy is set. In real life, the legacy of this actor who played Ken Dorftman was completely centered on this one movie appearance. A legacy is something that we all leave, whether good or bad. Webster’s Dictionary defines it as money or property bequeathed to another by will, or something handed down from an ancestor, a predecessor or from the past. It is what a person is remembered for. It is what a person leaves for others. What is your legacy? Beyond the material legacy of money, property and financial wealth from estate planning… beyond the career legacy of having reached a certain position within your field or line of work… what is your legacy? This year’s theme of God.Men.Mountains.Legacies. is significant for the 10 Year Anniversary of Peak Challenge. Individually for each man, there is a spiritual legacy that is in play and one that can be added to at any time and in any way through God. Corporately, there is a spiritual legacy that we as a group of men, more than 1,400 of us over the last 10 years, can leave for our families, friends, neighbors, communities and churches. Take time to think about the legacy you are leaving. Questions: What legacy have I left? What legacy do I need to leave? Joshua 4 speaks of the people of Israel taking steps to leave a legacy. What next steps can I take to leave a legacy that will impact the Kingdom? Take some time to read Joshua 4. Pray about what it says. Write down on paper some things that you want to cement as your legacy. God.Men.Mountains.Legacies www.peakchallenge.net God.Men.Mountains.Legacies. Peak Challenge 10th Anniversary
