MILITARY RESOURCE LOUNGE
What is UVIZE?
Uvize is the new
virtual veteran’s center.
It offers resources for
veterans, spouses, and
dependents, one on one
mentoring, groups for
specific interests and
academic programs, an
advice library, and
educational videos.
The Military Resource Lounge is open during
regular Warwick Center hours, which are:
7 a.m. – 11 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The lounge is a place you can go for free
coffee, resources, studying, camaraderie, and
relaxation between classes.
Various programming is available
throughout the year and you can find that
information at

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: SHANDI BLACK
United States Air Force
Shandi Black was born and raised in
Wilmington, NC. She graduated from
Hoggard High School in 2010, and
then attended University of North
Carolina Asheville from 2010-2012.
She joined the Air Force in 2012, and
worked as a C-17 Globemaster III
Loadmaster. Her main duty station
Shandi and her mom after graduating Basic
Training in San Antonio, TX at Lackland
Air Force Base.
was the Joint Base Pearl HarborHickam, in Hawaii.
Now attending University of North
Carolina Wilmington, Shandi is
studying Public Health with a
concentration in Community Health
Education.

“This is my hometown school and
they have a great College of Health
and Human Services department!
Plus, I live back at the beach. Who
doesn't love the beach?”

COFFEE BREAK
Need a mid-week pick me up? Stop by for some free coffee and breakfast! The
PERCH will be hosting off-campus coffee breaks on Wednesdays & Thursdays
from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. in Fisher Student Center across from the Bookstore
entrance. These coffee breaks are filled with helpful information from PERCH,
various UNCW offices, and apartment complexes!
ABOUT THE PERCH: PERCH services, provided by the Office of the Dean of Students, contribute to
the successful transition and university engagement of off-campus, non-traditional, graduate, and
military-affiliated students by:
- Providing Personal support
- Delivering Educational opportunities
- Connecting students to UNCW and Wilmington Resources
- Arranging opportunities for Community development
- Assisting with your off-campus Housing search
