Here are a few notes before you proceed. First, you may not use your book or notes or
calculators during the exam. If you have any questions during the exam, please raise your

a circle. Please provide a clearly labeled picture as part of your explanation, and use
complete sentences. You may use the area formulas for parallelograms, rectangles, and
triangles in your derivation.

4. (9) At noon, Suzy accidentally let go of her balloon. It rose straight up in the air at a rate
of 3 mi/hr. She immediately began to run away in a straight line at a rate of 5 mi/hr. At
1:00, what was the distance between Suzy and her balloon? Be sure to state any theorems
or formulas you use, clearly give the meaning of any variable you use, and include units in
your final answer.
5. (4) Television sets are measured by the length of the diagonal of the rectangular screen.
How many times larger is the screen area of a 40 inch model than that of a 20 inch model?
Be sure to provide justification for your answer. You may assume that both televisions

the glide arrow and glide mirror shown below.
(c) (4) Calculate the area of polygon ABCDEFG assuming that the horizontal distance
between any two adjacent dots is 1 cm. Be sure to provide justification for your
answer, and include units in your final answer.
(d) (Bonus 3) Calculate the perimeter of polygon ABCDEFG assuming that the horizontal distance between any two adjacent dots is 1 cm. Be sure to include units in your
