What is Walkaday? Walkaday is a
programme of friendly led-walks which
aims to encourage people to walk.
Walkaday is administered by Stockport
Council and walks are led by volunteers.
Welcome to Autumn/Winter 2016/17 Walkaday
Our programme of friendly led walks explores the parks,
footpaths and green spaces of Stockport on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. These Tuesday and Thursday walks are around
4 miles long and aim to encourage people who are new or
returning to walking by offering walks at a leisurely pace.
Unless stated otherwise, the starting time for most of the
Tuesday and Thursday walks is usually 1.30pm.
Walkaday 2016/17
How fit do I need to be? Walking is one of the best ways
to improve your health and fitness so why not start with
one of Walkaday’s Tuesday or Thursday walks and see how
your fitness improves weekly?
Theses walks provide a starting-point for people who are
new to walking, with the opportunity to enjoy the footpaths
of Stockport in friendly company. As you get fitter and
more used to walking, you may feel that you would like
to attempt longer walks and explore further afield. In this
case you could then try the Wednesday or Friday walks or
ring 0161 217 6111 for details of local walking clubs,
These walks are supported by:
Who can I contact for more information?
If you want any more information about the walks please

Are any of the walks suitable for people with mobility
difficulties or disabilities? Yes. If you are a wheelchair user
or feel that you may have difficulty negotiating stiles or uneven
ground please let the Walkaday team (0161 217 6111) know in
advance so we can ensure that an appropriate route is planned.
The distance walked is usually four miles unless otherwise
stated.
Are children welcome? Yes - but they must be accompanied by
a responsible adult.
Do I need to wear any special clothing or footwear? Boots
are not essential but are advised as most suitable footwear.
Hiking gear is not needed, but warm waterproof clothing is
essential to keep out the rain and cold.
Can I come on my own? Yes - Walkaday provides an
opportunity to walk in company and make new friends.
Are there any walks for people with health difficulties who
may not be able to manage a four mile walk? Yes. Contact
Dawne Fawcett-Tandy 0161 474 2493 for details of the Walking
for the Way to Health Initiative in Stockport.
