PREAMBLE- The Bates College Figure Skating Club is committed to

-PREAMBLEThis is where you are going to talk about the purpose of your club
The Bates College Figure Skating Club is committed to the development of the sport of figure
skating at all levels. Our mission is to guide skaters to continue to excel in the sport they love at a
compeitive level, as well as to encourage students that express an interest in recreational skating.
The BCFSC is striving to gain campuswide recognition for the sport through exhibitions,
compeitions, and club-sponsored events.
-ARTICLE I: NAMEThe name of our club is appropriately named the Bates College Figure Skating Club (BCFSC).
-ARTICLE II: PURPOSEThe purpose of the club is to provide its members who love the individual sport of figure skating
with an opportunity to skate in a team setting. The BCFSC seeks to bring the uniqueness and
beauty of the sport to the campus through a series of club-sponsored events. During practice
sessions, the club will sharpen individual skills and prepare for seasonal compeitions.
As well as
compete on behalf of Bates College in the Eastern Division of the Intercollegiate Figure Skating
Compeititons, the club would like to host a mini-compeition not sanctioned by the United States
Figure Skating Association. The CBB Figure Skating Challenge would be a mini-compeition
against Colby and Bowdoin in which skaters from the three Maine schools would compete for
bragging rights and a trophy. The main goal, however, is to promote school spirit and BCFSC
awareness. The BCFSC would also host an annual exhibition for the college in which members
would perform their program in front of an audiance, as if it were in a compeitive setting, but no
judging is involved. This is also to advertise for the sport at Bates and allow members to
showcase their talents and hardwork to the community. Another event the BCFSC would like to
host is an open skate for all of the Bates community to sponsor a worthy cause, perhaps
something locally. A canned good that would go towards a food bank or a children's book that
would benefit a local elementary school serve as an admission ticket for a night of fun and free
skating with friends.
-ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIPMembership in the BCFSC is open to all students currently enrolled in the College. It is perhaps
best suited for those Batesies interested in learing to skate or already passionate about the sport
and looking to further develop their skills. No skating experience is necessary to join, but it may
be helpful. The BCFSC is open to students who want to skate compeitively and compete on
behalf of Bates through the Intercollegiate Team Skating Competitions sanctioned through the
United States Figure Skating Association.
Recreational skaters, those who do not wish to
compete, are also welcome to join the club and participate in exhibitions and club-sponsored
events.
-ARTICLE IV: OFFICERS-********
Please tell us who is going to be in charge of this club: President, Treasurer ... etc.
As fonder of this club, Tessica Glancey, Class of2012 would serve as President of the BCFSC.
With only three members as of now, Katewatson Prins, Maria Rouvalis, and Tessica Glancey,
the club is hoping to expand with new members. Katewatson Prins will serve as Treasurer, and
Maria Rouvalis will serve as Secretary.
-ARTICLE V: FINANCESFunds are necessary in any club, but with respect to the BCFSC, funds are crucial. The sport of
figure skating can be very expensive. The cost to add Bates College as a collegiate institution in
good standing with the USFSA was a $30 membership fee. Each additional member must pay
$20 annually. For those BCFSC members who wish to compete, membership to the USFSA is
required. This can be expensive, but most comeptitive skaters have already purchased this and
are in good standing with the USFSA. If a member is not registered with the USFSA, and
wishes to compete, he or she may go through the registration process. In order to allow all
members to participate in Intercollegiate Figure Skating Comepeititions, our club will request
funding to pay for the entrance fees for all skaters' events. The first event per skater is $60, and
each subsequent event is $20. A skater can compete in up to five events. The more events a
skater enters, the better chance he or she has of placing and earning overall points for the team.
Transportation to and from the compeitions is another cost our club must bear. Depending on
the number of members and on the location of the competitions, costs will vary. Also, to foster
team unity, the BCFSC will customize and purchase warmup jackets for the competitions.
If the
full cost of the jackets cannot be covered by the funds designated for the BCFSC, at least the cost
can be reduced with the help of some funds for the club's members.
-ARTICLE VI: AMENDMENTSThe BCFSC will deal with amendments to our Constitution in a democratic process. All
members of the team will vote on the issue at hand and if there is a majority, we will amend.
