One Dayer - 1 ‘C’ MCC 1st XI vs Yorkshire CC (1’D’) played at MCC ‘A’
SIAS ENJOYS THE “YORKSHIRE PUDDING”……..!
Ruthless, clinical and application were the words of the day and then of course some
partying..!
Skipper, Van Harte, winning the toss and having no question to ask Yorkshire to bat, Millies
would try extracting as much usage from the pitch as possible.
A fit again, Du Randt, was trusted with the new cherry, with the wind, with whatever he
requested….! From the Blaauberg side, Van Harte thought he would use the cross northerly
to his advantage.
The openers, although wicketless until the sixth over, bowled good lines and areas, still
worked in partnership with Du Randt bagging a good catch square of the wicket and Van
Harte had opened the dismissals. Yorkshire 6/1 in 6 overs.
After nine overs Skipper brought on Osner from Blaauberg and Bezuidenhout from
Clubhouse end and The Stag never looked back. Sias was certainly running on some Indy
Oil, as all his cylinders were firing. These two bowled their allotted overs thru and finished with
fantastic figures of 5/26 and Osner keeping the pressure with 2/12, spin was not over as
Skipper replaced Osner with Maritz and brought back Du Randt. Maritz immediately kept the
pressure with four fine overs (1/1), before Hardenberg grabbed the final wicket of the innings.
The Yorkshire pudding was there for the eating, as Millies had a target of 68 to win.
In fact, the 40 minute interval was going to be longer than the Millies innings which still had to
begin. At 12h40, Skip and Youngster Stef, walked to the crease. They looked strong and
raced to 19 off 4 overs with both looking seasoned. Unfortunately, Stef on attempting the leg
glance, skied the ball and the end of his short spell with Millies had ended, but not before
showing his potential and class.
Hungry Shivon, who had waited patiently from 10h 00 to bat, eventually got his chance and
showed no respect to the struggling bowlers. He with Skipper, wrapped up the victory after
10.4 overs in 44 minutes…..! Shivon ending on 35* (in 14 balls) and Rob on 21*.
Shivon’s, The Don, scoring shots for the record – 6,2,4,4,4,6,1,4,4, 5 dot balls.
A much needed confidence building victory by 9 wickets.

FIRST TEAM ASSIST FIGHTING FIFTHS....... AT A PRICE!!
After careful negotiation by our Chairman and a hard earned deal was struck, this fixture
was moved from the quaint and serene surroundings of Royal Road Maitland to the more
familiar Theo Marais Park.
A late start due to excessive travelling saw Milnerton batting and getting off to a poor start
and before we knew it we were 12 for 3 and in serious trouble . A partnership of 32
between Kevin Barnes and Wray Van Schalkwyk steadied the ship to a certain extent
when Wray lost his wicket for 17. Mark Stott joined Kevin and edged his way to 12
before trying to hit the ball into the vlei and getting bowled. Kevin was looking really solid
before the Chairman ran him out for a very well played 39. Another couple of quick
wickets saw us a 95 for 9 and in serious danger of not making 100.
Never fear when Kevin “Daniel Son” Kruger is near , Kevin and Chairman Reynders
proceeded to compile a 41 run final wicket partnership which saw the 5th’s end on a
defendable total of 136 for 9.
Well done Chairman. Mr Miyagi would have been proud of Kevin Krugers effort
…………………………When really needed Kevin pulled out the famous “Crane Kick” the
opposition never saw it coming………..well done mate!
Our bowling effort started off really well with Chairman Reynders keeping one end really
tight and ending his spell with 2 wickets. Reece Viljoen opened from the other end but a
change was quickly made for our speciality into the wind bowler Ray Van Vuuren. The
Ray and Shiraz bowling combination kept the pressure up and they were 50 for 2 after 18
and all seemed in control.
Shiraz got the key wicket straight after the break with a somewhat lucky run out , all the
while the scoreboard was ticking over and regular wickets falling we ended up in a
situation of Glamorgan needing 9 runs off two overs with 1 wicket standing. Kevin Kruger
to the rescue getting the final wicket bowled , must have been off-putting the batsmen had
a pair of “JEAN PANT” on a good target to aim for .
Milnerton win by 8 runs.
Pink Cap: Reece Viljoen

3 ‘D’ – 5th XI vs Edgemead CC played at MCC ‘A’
SANTA CLAUS INSPIRES 3 ‘D’ STAG TO TAKE KNIFE EDGE DERBY
After a most enjoyable Kiddies Christmas party where the Irish version of Santa Claus
made an appearance and the Chairman nearly stole the toys it was down to serious 3D
derby cricket on the “A” field.
The Chairman losing the toss and we were asked to bowl on a very hot and windy day.
Again Chairman Reynders started off like a house on fire opening the bowling with good
support into the wind from Neil Perich we restricted them to 60 for 3 at drinks after 18
overs , first change bowlers namely Ray Van Vuuren and Reece Viljoen kept up the
pressure with Lebo Modise bowling rather quickly in his first couple of overs to sustain the
pressure and at one stage we were looking at restricting them around the 90 run mark.
Unfortunately Wray Van Schalkwyk let the strangle hold go by conceding 48 runs in his 5
overs. Edgemead ending up with a very competitive 150 off their 35 overs.
Our batting innings started off dramatically with Jan Odendaal and Kevin Barnes losing
their wickets cheaply and we were 18 for 2 and in trouble. Brett Papayanni in particular
took a liking to the bowling and with Ray Van Vuuren took the score to 71 with no fuss ,
Brett eventually caught at mid-wicket for a very well played 42. Wray then joined Ray and
comfortably took the score to 100 before Ray Van Vuuren was very well caught at square
leg for a well played 34.
Dewald and Wray took the score to 118 before Wray was caught at short third man for 30.
Pressure building and run rate at around 6 an over with Reynders and Dewald running
well, Dewald out for 10.
21 needed off 18balls and enter Neil Perich! Third ball gets smashed for 4. Reynders and
Perich running like the gale force wind they were batting in , Reynders bowled for a
valuable 12.
Irish in and 7 required off last over !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Five balls gone and we have scraped 6
runs , game tied and 1 to win with 1 ball left,Perich on strike and Irish in the starting blocks
the other end . Bowler gets into his delivery stride and the Greyhound is off , Perich gets
half a block in and Irish is in at Perich’s end now Neil has to make his ground at the nonstrikers end………………………………………….Perich in !
We win by 3 wickets off the last ball. What a game brilliant and the result suited us
…………………something about the “A” field and the 5th’s when it comes to close games.
Pink Cap: Neil Perich for scoring the winning run after attempting an Allan Donald 1 run to
win the match.
The scoreboard says it all ...........spot the difference!

(Awesome result and thanks for the payback for the 1st team “rape” that was dished
up a week ago, well guys a relax to rest those big bodies, slim bodies and spend
time with your lovely wives and return hungry for cricket, not the Castles......!)
3 ‘D’ – 6th XI vs Edgemead played away 15 December 2012
SIXES CLAIM 1ST EDGEMEAD WIN OF THE WEEKEND!
Thanks to Edgemead for offering us their field instead of using a school pitch that has not
been prepared. We arrived to find a pitch that had been prepared and an outfield that had
been cut. A bonus in our league!
We lost the toss and the opposition put us in to bat and Millies somehow managed to put
in a below-par batting performance on a perfect batting surface to have us all back in the
hut for an embarrassing 72 runs using only 29 of our 35 overs against a bowling attack
that was nothing special. Gert Badenhorst returning from a hand injury, seems to be
getting back into form with 21, Jordan v. Vuuren 12 and the veteran Glen Ackers getting
12 not out, were the only batters of note.
Amazingly Millies managed to drag victory out of the jaws of defeat with a spirited
performance from our bowlers. Thanks to returning veteran, Chris Freeman 2 for 11, Ryan
Condon 3 for 12, Victor Geldenhuys 2 for 11 and Keegan Gilliespie getting the last
batsman, we dismissed Edgemead for 20 runs less than we got. Well done guys, we
really gave our bowlers very little to defend but we will take the much needed 10 points to
break a 3-game losing spell.

3 ‘D’ – 6th XI vs Durbanville played away 17 December 2012
COMBINATION OF YOUTH AND EXPEREINCE FALLS JUST SHORT
Last season Durbanville flattened Millies on a drying wicket at Rondebosch by more than
a 100 runs so with them coming off a 260 total just before our game on Monday, they felt
very confident of an easy win.
We rocked up at Durbanville with an interesting mix of youth (four 10th Graders, a
precocious 14 year-old and a some dodgy vets with yours truly being dubbed Colonel
Sanders (KFC) right from the start.
We were looking forward to playing on the A-track, but it had been used on Saturday and
Sunday so by Monday, it was a pretty tired track, baked hard and very dry with little
bounce.
We lost the toss and was put in to bat with Gert Badenhorst and Brad Glanville starting
our innings. Gert attacked from the start and was unlucky to be taken midfield on 18 with
young Glanville a cautious 32. A wobble and then Matt Haywood struck an impressive 32
before being run-out with young Dillon getting 14. We set Durbs a total of 127 and it was
very hot when they came off to bat.
We started off with Ryan Condon and Matt Hayward and Durbanville realized this was not
going to be a cake-walk. Hayward got 2/28 but should have got three, Ryan was his usual
economical with 0/19 in seven, 10th grader Luke Magerrman 2/21 of beautiful leg-spin. No
long hops, nothing down the leg-side and nothing wide to cut. We dropped their batsman
who made 62 twice, and that is what eventually cost us the game. Catches win matches is
not a cliché.
Indicative of the quality of our bowling is that Durbs got the winning runs in the second last
over. Thanks to Mark Scott and his encouragement to all in the team. Management
should take another look at Matt Hayward. Strong in the block-hole bowler, beating the
bat frequently and no mugg with the bat. A most enjoyable game in spite of our loss.

3 ‘A’ – 7th XI Tigers vs Durbanville ‘A’ CC played Away
We always knew this match was going to be particularly tough – they were right up there
on the log and we were missing six “stalwarts” but we headed off to give it the best crack
we could. We won the toss and opted to bat first. Brad and Peter “One Hit Wonder”
Gillmer opened up for us. Peter smashed a six and was then removed, but the openers
had given us a solid start at a good run rate.
Enter “Colgate” Taljaard. Johan batted with controlled aggression and was putting the
bowlers under impression with his zero tolerance to the average bowling. He was only
respecting the very good bowling – the rest of it had to travel.
Brad was out for a very well-played 26. We were all as surprised as him when he went out
as he looked in no trouble at all throughout his innings. Crax entered and he and Colgate
continued to rotate the strike and build the platform for a final assault in the last 10 overs.
We reached 122/2 after 25 overs. Crax missed a full toss shortly thereafter and was sent
packing for 27. Colgate then missed a straight one and was bowled for a mighty
impressive 73.
Unfortunately the tail didn’t wag and we ended up only adding 35 in the last 10 overs to
take us to 157/9 in our allotted 35 overs.
We had all heard in the week about one of their batsman – Arnaud Schipper (apparently
a class act). We knew if we got him we were in with a chance so we headed out with that
in mind.
Ewan “Vlakkie” Fourie opened up with the Slinky. For the most part the bowling was good,
but the “class act” was punishing anything slightly loose so the pressure was on us to limit
the bad balls.
Ewan then affected a Jonty Rhodes-like run out. This earned him the TFC as the longer
that batsmen had stayed the better for us as he couldn’t get the ball off the square.
Nonetheless, in all honesty, it was a magical bit of fielding.
The other batsmen were making very little impression, but the “class act” was very much
keeping them ahead of the required run rate. Husky Harris entered the mix and bowled
his best spell of the Season with little reward. He was landing the ball in good areas, but
the “class act” was dispatching it with disdain – there were good cricketing lessons to be
learnt and hopefully we took a little something on board? Crax turned the arm over and
did a decent job, but we needed wickets to put any pressure on them and that wasn’t
forthcoming. They knocked off the required 158 with 4 overs to go and so we lost to the
better team on the day.
We ended up hanging around and joining them for fines. All in all, it was a great day out.
Not the result we had hoped for, but a good day out nonetheless. Special mention to
Yusuf Sayed and Llewellyn Pillay who made the debuts – better results in the future
perhaps, but you guys were very solid on debut. Special thanks to Gandie, Ewan, Tony
“Tiger” Ackermann and Brad (talented youngster) for filling in for us on the day. Without
you the game wouldn’t have gone ahead so we really do appreciate it
Let’s enjoy the break and give it another good crack come January 2013.

problem and one from the treasurer – subs MAY be a problem, but I will keep my
Editor hat on and look forward to a great second half. Best wishes.)
