Summer Reading Activities- Rising Grade 4- 2014 Dear Future Fourth Grader, Attached is a list of suggested series, authors, and books for your summer reading enjoyment. You are free to choose from this list or read other books that interest and inspire you. Below are the three reading activities you must complete before school starts. Until August, happy reading! Sincerely, Your Fourth Grade Teachers Part I. Shared Book Please read the book The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. We will discuss this novel in literature circles when school starts. Part II. Record of Books Read Once you finish a book (either from the suggested reading list or one you found on your own) record the title and author on the next page. We are so excited to see what you enjoy reading! Part III. Project Choose your favorite book to use for one of the projects listed below. (Please do not use The Lemonade War!) You only need to do one of the projects. You are welcome to bring your finished project on Orientation Day, but definitely bring it on the first day of school. Be ready to present your book project to your new classmates that day. Book Project Choices 1. On a piece of 12x18 white construction paper, create a colorful and detailed picture of an important scene from your book. On a piece of lined paper, write a caption describing the scene and why you chose to represent it. Use supporting details from your story to help us understand why this scene is so important. 2. Write a diary entry about one important event from the book. Write the entry in the first person (using “I”) as if YOU were the character telling what happened. As you write, think about the character’s personality and traits so that it sounds as if the character is truly doing the writing. 3. Create a “movie trailer” for the book. Convince your audience that they need to read this book!
