Math
Blizzard Bag #1 assignments will be graded
over the weekend and posted in Infinite
Campus. Students completed a division of
decimals quiz this week, and a handful of
students took advantage of the extra credit that
was given over the long 5 day weekend. I am
hoping to update those soon as well.
We are moving into a new domain in Math:
Operations and Algebraic Thinking. This
consists of order of operations, writing simple
algebraic expressions, find patterns and use
variables to express those patterns. There will
be a quiz on Wednesday next week on order of
operations, including using brackets and braces.
Common Core Standards addressed during these
units:
5.OA.1 Use parentheses, brackets, or braces in
numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions
with these symbols.
5.OA.2 Write simple expressions that record
calculations with numbers, and interpret numerical
expressions without evaluating them.
5.OA..3 Generate two numerical patterns using two
given rules. Identify apparent relationships between
corresponding terms. (graphing will occur later)

We are still working in the Common Core Coach
book. Also we continue to complete TFK (Time
for Kids) activities weekly. We are continuing to
work with Text Structures, and there will be a quiz
on Thursday next week.
Grammar/Writing
The verb unit test is in the Friday Folder. We will
next move into a writing piece in our Common
Core Coach book.
