TEACHER EXPECTATIONS…
Mrs. Quinonez (Kin-yo-nez)
A little about me…
This will be my 16th year of teaching. This will
be my 14th year in the Higley school district. I
started out at Power Ranch and taught 2nd
grade. I moved up to the middle school and
taught 6th-8th grade math, 6th grade reading,
and 8th grade writing. I transferred over to
Chaparral when it opened 10 years ago. I fell
in love with 6th grade math, and I enjoy
teaching and exploring mathematics with the
students every day. Chaparral and its
community hold my heart. I have had some
amazing parental support here, and I have
come to call Chaparral my home.
Prior to working at the Higley School District, I
worked in Phoenix teaching 2nd/3rd grade
bilingual class. I also was able to teaching
while living overseas in Shanghai, China and
Penang, Malaysia.
I look forward to working with both you and
your child this year.
Students will find that I have high expectations
for them both behaviorally and academically. I
will ask them to work harder than they have in
the past. I strive to treat every student fairly and
respectfully, keeping in mind the individual needs
of students. I will work hard to include the
community and the families of this team of
students as much as possible, and I am open to
ideas about what others can bring into the
classroom to enhance learning. If you feel your
child needs something that he/she is not
getting....or if you are a student and feel that you
need more assistance in some particular area,
don't hesitate to contact me. I will do everything
in my power to help your child reach proficiency
in the area of math.
COMMUNICATION…
I am looking forward to working with you
and your child this school year. Together we
can make a positive impact on your child.
Communication is essential to me. Please
don’t hesitate to contact me with any
question or concern you may have
throughout the year.

WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD SUCCEED…
Staying involved in your child's education is
the key to a successful year. Engage your child
in conversation about his/her day, but know
that children won't always give out much
information. You will be able to check their
agenda/interactive notebook (IAN), and see all
assignments or assessments every day.
Everything they do will also be posted on my
teacher pages daily. You can use this as a
springboard for discussion; instead of saying
"How did you do at school today?" (The
answer is often "O.K."), you can say, "Oh, I see
you're learning about....what did you find
out?" Some parents utilize this tool to help
prepare for upcoming quizzes and tests.
A FEW PROCEDURES…
To help keep things going smoothly, it helps to
remember our class procedures. If you are
picking your child up from school, please make
sure to follow the pick-up/drop-off procedures.
This will make life much easier for all of us. Also,
if there will be changes in your pick up schedule
please call the school office or you can email me
@ [email protected], so we can get the
message to your child. Safety is essential.
Lunches should be in a lunch box or bag with
the name on the OUTSIDE. If your child is buying
lunch, please send the money/check to the front
office. Make sure their name and lunch number
are on the check. You can also send cash with
them on a daily basis.
Your child will need his/her backpack EVERY day.
Put names on backpacks and all supplies –
especially composition notebooks, agenda, and
calculators! It makes it easier to return them to
their rightful owner -- if they get lost.
Please
check your child's agenda, which should list their
independent practice (homework) for each
class.
All students will write in their agenda
daily for math class. This will help both you and
your child know what upcoming assignments
they have to complete. I will stamp each agenda
daily if all work is turned in or if there is missed
work. Please make sure that your child has their
agenda daily for class.
