Creating Podcasts to download onto iTunes or an iPod using iTunes U Students Before attempting to download any podcasts, be sure to have iTunes installed on your computer. The instructor will send you the URL (Uniform Resource Locator, also known as a link or web link) to their iTunes U site. Copy and paste the URL into your browser. This will open iTunes and you will have to log in with your B number and your password. This password is the one you use to access your BCC records. If you don’t know or have forgotten your password contact the helpdesk and they will reset your password for you. • Once you have done this you will see the home page of your instructor. • • You will notice you are in the iTunes Store shown by the red arrow. Keep in mind the subtitles under LIBRARY and PLAYLISTS are actually folders that are on your hard drive and not what the instructor has in their iTunes U. Only the iTunes Store is where your instructor has their material for you to download. • The area in yellow is where your instructor will have the files for you to download onto your computer and/or iPod. Instructors can rename and have a tab for each course they are teaching. Be sure to click on the tab with your course name. 1. You can see this instructor has five tabs. The “Video podcast” tab is the one we will be using. There are three methods to download a movie or file to your iPod. The Single File Method might be the easiest, but use whatever method suits you. Method One: Single File Method 1. Click on “Get Movie” denoted by the black arrow on above graphic. The name of this movie is “podcast_outlineQT” and is 2:46 minutes long. 2. You will see by the graphic below that it is downloading to your hard drive. 2. 3. If you look in your Movies subtitle folder you will see that the file is there. This means it is now on your hard drive. To format the file for viewing on an iPod, right mouse click on the movie icon and select “Convert Selection for iPod” 3. When you right mouse click on the file and do not see “Convert Selection for iPod” know that the file is in the correct format already and does not need converting. 4. Connect your iPod to your computer, then in the toolbar click File>Sync iPod. Downloading time will depend on the speed of your service, length of the movie, and speed of your computer. Example: With a high speed internet connection and a 1.86GHz 2.00GB of RAM it took 17 minutes to download a 44 minute video. Method Two: All files at once. 1. The only change for this method is instead of clicking on “Get Movie” you will click “Get Tracks”. This will download all files within the one tab. . 2. Repeat 2, 3, and 4. to download to your iPod. Method Three: Subscribe 1. The only difference here is when you click “Subscribe” you will download the latest file placed in the tab and automatically download any file added after the most recent file. 2. Repeat 2, 3, and 4 to download to your iPod.
