Long Term Plan 2015-2025 Communty Event Feedback Rodney Helensville 5 March 2015 Comment Count Would like to see further walking/cycling tracks connecting both Helensville and Parakai together to create opportunities $1m to seal the roads is not enough - like to see the full $10m as indicated by the Rodney Local Board - Rodney is the largest land mass local board area - we are not serviced well. Public transport - desire for the bus service from Helensville to continue to Kaukapakapa (but this doesn't need to be every hour - less regular than than) Public transport - there should be a bus service to Helensville on a Sunday Public transport - a link bus service to Helensville - Kaukapakapa - Silverdale to address future growth. Once people are in Silverdale they have a greater range of buses to catch to the next destination Concern about erosion at Shelly Beach. Would like to see the plan that was started 3 years ago completed - if we don't continue erosion will take away the beach. Shelly Beach is a heavily used resource as a main access point for people to go out fishing - need to look after it and protect what we have. Council need to make initial investments/ intervention to mobilise communities to realise partnerships and achieve community projects. To assist community initiatives would like council to be prepared to loan cones, assist with signage, provide a skip for clean-ups etc? City Rail Link - the CRL is too expensive for the size of the population. Re-examine the option of light rail or trams and investigate other lower cost alternatives Support for CRL - it is needed for the future; support for underground transport option Support for cycle connectivity and safety between rural towns In Helensville the commercial rates have gone down in price over recent years and these rates should be higher. Don't lower the business deferential Business rates - why should they go down? Business's should pay their fair share Issues with 'Our Man in the UK' and expenditure on expensive sculptures - would rather see priority spending on footpaths, particularly in the Helensville Parakai area - the footpath in this area needs urgent maintenance. [Rodney] Footpaths - staged delivery of footpaths in local areas with the community having an input into which sections are done Kaukapakapa and Riverhead are desperate for footpath connectivity. Kaukapakapa is seeing significant growth and footpaths in this area are a definite priority, particularly from the school at the north end of town to the new subdivision. These footpaths have been identified in the structure plan (and included in the Unitary Plan) and are also identified in the Kaukapakapa Design and Development Guidelines document. Corner Awaroa and Rautawhiri Roads - there are maintenance issues here, with weeds on the pavement, makes it dangerous for walking especially in the wet Library hours are great - we have a good library in Helensville 2 2 1 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 2 1 1 1 3 1 3 5 1 Helensville Museum - doesn't get enough support - need funding assistance - great museum with lots of potential Funding allocations to local boards should be reconsidered so that they are not based on population [Helensville] Rate increases - object to OUR rates going to Central Auckland Environmental community led projects (volunteer groups) - council is doing a good job in this area Section next to the retrofit houses in Helensville is full of noxious weeds Parakai Domain - concern about the road surface and needs to be fixed - advised that this would need to go to the Parakai Recreation Reserve Board for their information and action. Develop South Head, Shelly Beach as a quality recreation area for all of Auckland Like to see a BMX trail at Parakai for the young kids to provide further entertainment 1 1 1 1 5 Nothing for kids in Parakai only for under 5's needs something more to challenge them and provide entertainment 1 Rest area was created by former Rodney District Council and the community - with the super city amalgamation the level of service has dropped - mowing has been haphazard - need to maintain our facilities Would like to see a skate park at Shelly Beach - there was a temporary one on the top reserve but was taken away would like to see a skate park facility in our area Playground in Kaukapakapa is supported Mill Road Reserve in Helensville (the area by the Helensville Museum) should be beautified with more trees planted for shade and amenity. Mill Road Reserve in Helensville should have public toilets Rate increases on fixed incomes is very hard 1/3 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 29/04/2015 Long Term Plan 2015-2025 Communty Event Feedback Rodney Helensville 5 March 2015 Comment Count Waimauku Roundabout (SH16) - there should be lights at this intersection instead of a proposed roundabout as there is an issue with safety for pedestrians crossing the road to the school, particularly in relation to school children Auckland Central need a decent public transport system Transport - prefer a "user pays" system than a fuel tax, but need to have a better system to collect tolls than the Puhoi system Support for fuel tax Regional: Transport question - agreed to user pays on the motorway Motorway tolls are supported CCO's - merging Auckland Waterfront and Properties sounds a sensible solution UAGC - keep it at $385 UAGC - there should be a low or no fixed charge Need local board to invest funding to provide connections between Parakai and Helensville - need to make this happen - like to see something in the 10 year budget going forward Concern that all the projects are happening in the East not the West part of Rodney Local Board area within the 10 year budget The key is to develop Parakai Reserve i.e.. Have a better campground - this could be a fantastic resource for the community and visitors to the area Developer Contributions should be spent locally Trading in public places bylaw; support for a waiver from permit fees for community events. Charitable/non profit organisations and community purpose groups should be exempt the fee in legislation Event permit fees - ratepayer groups are being charged to use council halls - there is a difficult charging process to go through in order to get a reduction for such groups. There should be no charge and the process should be streamlined. Shelly Beach carpark needs resurfacing - a lot more people coming to this area using the launching facilities - Shelly Beach parking is full by 9am and also have Charter boats coming in. Parking is limited Kaukapakapa is growing - need better transport service Public transport - increase public transport to places like Helensville by extending the service for a passenger train from Helensville to Swanson (people can then catch a bus or train from Swanson into the CBD) No public transport to the North. Have to catch a bus into Auckland city to go North Need cameras for Parakai Wharf (Springs Road) for security to enable charters to use the wharf (and customers for safety/security) Need to use Parakai Wharf more to free up parking at Shelly Beach - real issue this needs to be addressed Housing developments are happening all around the west side of Rodney - Shelly Beach is already a popular launching facility - with the growth comes more people who want to use this facility - need to look after the reserve, carparking, and other spaces for users. We need to plan for the future Library system is fantastic Water and wastewater infrastructure should serve the local area and not service other areas (e.g. sewage being dumped at Helensville from out of the non-service area. We need all the open spaces and parks, especially with the growth that is expected Upset when they stopped the train service to Helensville - would like to see this back up and running - how can we become the most liveable city if we only have one mode of transport? 5 2 3 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 3 1 1 1 2 1 5 1 1 2 1 1 1 2 Alternative systems for funding local government need to be looked at such as a per capita system or poll tax. It is important to concentrate on local projects Rodney feels like it has been left out of the Long-term Plan document - none of the maps in the document include the Rodney area. Upset Helensville is in the "super City" but not even on the Auckland Maps [Rodney (West)] Concern that the purchase of the old prawn farm as a regional park is a long way away before they see this being fully utilised therefore putting more pressure on Shelly Beach. We would like to commend the council and the local boards on the fantastic network of regional and local parks, they are well maintained and a great asset to Auckland. We love to bring visitors to our parks Concerned about the conditions of the Roads - pot holes, muddy berms. Council needs to concentrate on green spaces in new subdivisions and future developments and require an area of green space in new subdivisions, particularly as children need somewhere to play More Development is needed in Helensville, both employment and housing to attract new people to the area and to keep the community going. It appears as though everything is going to Warkworth and Huapai/Kumeu - nothing for Helensville [Helensville] Create local employment so people don’t have to travel into town Rautawhiri Park is a fantastic park - great resource and needs to be maintained Parakai - intensification so far is haphazard - needs to be of a higher quality and higher density Transport - concerned with road congestion in Huapai/Kumeu when the SHA is established. The road (State Highway 16), is already congested and the housing development will make it much worse Infrastructure - spend more money on infrastructure in Helensville/South Head area; upgrade the water supply as it is almost at capacity.
