Would like to see further walking/cycling tracks connecting both Helensville and Parakai together to create
opportunities
$1m to seal the roads is not enough - like to see the full $10m as indicated by the Rodney Local Board - Rodney is the
largest land mass local board area - we are not serviced well.
Public transport - desire for the bus service from Helensville to continue to Kaukapakapa (but this doesn't need to be
every hour - less regular than than)
Public transport - there should be a bus service to Helensville on a Sunday
Public transport - a link bus service to Helensville - Kaukapakapa - Silverdale to address future growth. Once people
are in Silverdale they have a greater range of buses to catch to the next destination
Concern about erosion at Shelly Beach. Would like to see the plan that was started 3 years ago completed - if we
don't continue erosion will take away the beach.
Shelly Beach is a heavily used resource as a main access point for people to go out fishing - need to look after it and
protect what we have.
Council need to make initial investments/ intervention to mobilise communities to realise partnerships and achieve
community projects.
To assist community initiatives would like council to be prepared to loan cones, assist with signage, provide a skip for
clean-ups etc?
City Rail Link - the CRL is too expensive for the size of the population. Re-examine the option of light rail or trams and
investigate other lower cost alternatives
Support for CRL - it is needed for the future; support for underground transport option
Support for cycle connectivity and safety between rural towns
In Helensville the commercial rates have gone down in price over recent years and these rates should be higher.
Don't lower the business deferential
Business rates - why should they go down? Business's should pay their fair share
Issues with 'Our Man in the UK' and expenditure on expensive sculptures - would rather see priority spending on
footpaths, particularly in the Helensville Parakai area - the footpath in this area needs urgent maintenance.
[Rodney] Footpaths - staged delivery of footpaths in local areas with the community having an input into which
sections are done
Kaukapakapa and Riverhead are desperate for footpath connectivity. Kaukapakapa is seeing significant growth and
footpaths in this area are a definite priority, particularly from the school at the north end of town to the new
subdivision. These footpaths have been identified in the structure plan (and included in the Unitary Plan) and are also
identified in the Kaukapakapa Design and Development Guidelines document.
Corner Awaroa and Rautawhiri Roads - there are maintenance issues here, with weeds on the pavement, makes it
dangerous for walking especially in the wet
Library hours are great - we have a good library in Helensville

Helensville Museum - doesn't get enough support - need funding assistance - great museum with lots of potential
Funding allocations to local boards should be reconsidered so that they are not based on population
[Helensville] Rate increases - object to OUR rates going to Central Auckland
Environmental community led projects (volunteer groups) - council is doing a good job in this area
Section next to the retrofit houses in Helensville is full of noxious weeds
Parakai Domain - concern about the road surface and needs to be fixed - advised that this would need to go to the
Parakai Recreation Reserve Board for their information and action.
Develop South Head, Shelly Beach as a quality recreation area for all of Auckland
Like to see a BMX trail at Parakai for the young kids to provide further entertainment

Nothing for kids in Parakai only for under 5's needs something more to challenge them and provide entertainment

Rest area was created by former Rodney District Council and the community - with the super city amalgamation the
level of service has dropped - mowing has been haphazard - need to maintain our facilities
Would like to see a skate park at Shelly Beach - there was a temporary one on the top reserve but was taken away would like to see a skate park facility in our area
Playground in Kaukapakapa is supported
Mill Road Reserve in Helensville (the area by the Helensville Museum) should be beautified with more trees planted
for shade and amenity.
Mill Road Reserve in Helensville should have public toilets
Rate increases on fixed incomes is very hard

Waimauku Roundabout (SH16) - there should be lights at this intersection instead of a proposed roundabout as there
is an issue with safety for pedestrians crossing the road to the school, particularly in relation to school children
Auckland Central need a decent public transport system
Transport - prefer a "user pays" system than a fuel tax, but need to have a better system to collect tolls than the
Puhoi system
Support for fuel tax
Regional: Transport question - agreed to user pays on the motorway
Motorway tolls are supported
CCO's - merging Auckland Waterfront and Properties sounds a sensible solution
UAGC - keep it at $385
UAGC - there should be a low or no fixed charge
Need local board to invest funding to provide connections between Parakai and Helensville - need to make this
happen - like to see something in the 10 year budget going forward
Concern that all the projects are happening in the East not the West part of Rodney Local Board area within the 10
year budget
The key is to develop Parakai Reserve i.e.. Have a better campground - this could be a fantastic resource for the
community and visitors to the area
Developer Contributions should be spent locally
Trading in public places bylaw; support for a waiver from permit fees for community events. Charitable/non profit
organisations and community purpose groups should be exempt the fee in legislation
Event permit fees - ratepayer groups are being charged to use council halls - there is a difficult charging process to go
through in order to get a reduction for such groups. There should be no charge and the process should be
streamlined.
Shelly Beach carpark needs resurfacing - a lot more people coming to this area using the launching facilities - Shelly
Beach parking is full by 9am and also have Charter boats coming in. Parking is limited
Kaukapakapa is growing - need better transport service
Public transport - increase public transport to places like Helensville by extending the service for a passenger train
from Helensville to Swanson (people can then catch a bus or train from Swanson into the CBD)
No public transport to the North. Have to catch a bus into Auckland city to go North
Need cameras for Parakai Wharf (Springs Road) for security to enable charters to use the wharf (and customers for
safety/security)
Need to use Parakai Wharf more to free up parking at Shelly Beach - real issue this needs to be addressed
Housing developments are happening all around the west side of Rodney - Shelly Beach is already a popular
launching facility - with the growth comes more people who want to use this facility - need to look after the reserve,
carparking, and other spaces for users. We need to plan for the future
Library system is fantastic
Water and wastewater infrastructure should serve the local area and not service other areas (e.g. sewage being
dumped at Helensville from out of the non-service area.
We need all the open spaces and parks, especially with the growth that is expected
Upset when they stopped the train service to Helensville - would like to see this back up and running - how can we
become the most liveable city if we only have one mode of transport?

Alternative systems for funding local government need to be looked at such as a per capita system or poll tax.
It is important to concentrate on local projects
Rodney feels like it has been left out of the Long-term Plan document - none of the maps in the document include
the Rodney area.
Upset Helensville is in the "super City" but not even on the Auckland Maps
[Rodney (West)] Concern that the purchase of the old prawn farm as a regional park is a long way away before they
see this being fully utilised therefore putting more pressure on Shelly Beach.
We would like to commend the council and the local boards on the fantastic network of regional and local parks, they
are well maintained and a great asset to Auckland. We love to bring visitors to our parks
Concerned about the conditions of the Roads - pot holes, muddy berms.
Cavillar Drive, Helensville - poor road surface, needs fixing
Roundabout and footpath at intersection state highway 16, Parakai, Helensville, needs repairing urgently
[Rodney] Road Sealing is a definite priority
Partnering with central government and other agencies for road sealing should be explored

[Helensville] We have a lot of unsealed roads which are a health issue
Developers of land should provide land for reserves and parks instead of a cash amount. Council needs to
concentrate on green spaces in new subdivisions and future developments and require an area of green space in new
subdivisions, particularly as children need somewhere to play
More Development is needed in Helensville, both employment and housing to attract new people to the area and to
keep the community going. It appears as though everything is going to Warkworth and Huapai/Kumeu - nothing for
Helensville
[Helensville] Create local employment so people don’t have to travel into town
Rautawhiri Park is a fantastic park - great resource and needs to be maintained
Parakai - intensification so far is haphazard - needs to be of a higher quality and higher density
Transport - concerned with road congestion in Huapai/Kumeu when the SHA is established. The road (State Highway
16), is already congested and the housing development will make it much worse
Infrastructure - spend more money on infrastructure in Helensville/South Head area; upgrade the water supply as it
is almost at capacity.
Business rates should be fixed
