SAILING INSTRUCTION
1.
RULES
The event will be governed by:
The Rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2017 – 2020 (RRS)
amended as shown in the document titled “World Sailing Racing Rules of
Sailing, Fast Boat Edition (February 2017)”.
The GC32 Class Rules 2017, except that G.2.3 (d) does not apply for
gennakers manufactured prior to 2017.
2.
COMMUNICATIONS
Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board (ONB) at the
race office inside the Oman Sail, Sailing School building.
The Race Committee channel will be 72.
3.
CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted on ONB before 9.00 on
the day it will take effect, except that any change to the schedule of races will
be posted by 20.00 on ONB on the day before it will take effect.
4.
SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
Will be displayed from the flag pole on the South East terrace corner of the
Oman Sailing School Building.
When the AP Flag is displayed ashore, the warning signal will not be made
less than 45 minutes after the lowering of the AP Flag. This changes RRS
Race Signals.

The presence of the skippers is mandatory at all briefings unless approved by
the OA.
The presence of the skipper and crews is mandatory at the price giving and all
official functions as defined in the event schedule unless approved by the OA.
6.
THE COURSES
Course 1:
Start – 1S to port – Gate 2 –– Gate 1 – Gate 2 –1S to starboard – Finish.
Course 2:
Start – Gate 1 – Gate 2 – Gate 1 – Finish.
Long Distance Race:
To be posted by 20.00 on ONB on the day before it will take effect.
The course to be sailed will be displayed on a course board on the race
committee boat.
7.
MARKS
• Gate 1 marks will be white inflatable buoys.
• Gate 2 marks will be yellow buoys.
• The Starting line will be between a staff displaying a blue flag on the
Race Committee Boat at the starboard end and a red inflatable mark at
the port end. A green buoy will be fixed by a rope on the leeward side of
the Race Committee boat. This mark is part of the Race Committee
boat.
• The Finishing line will be between a staff displaying a blue flag on the
Race Committee Boat at the port end and a red inflatable mark at the
starboard end.
8.
TIME LIMITS
A boat starting later than 4 minutes after her starting signal will be scored
DNS.
If no boat has finished within 35 minutes of the starting signal, the race will be
abandoned.
Boats failing to finish within 10 minutes after the first boat sails the course and
finishes will be scored Did Not Finish. This changes RRS 35, A4 and A5.
9.
DAMAGE DELAY
Boats may request a delay to the start of the next race, immediately following
the last finisher of that race. When granted the new warning signal will be no
sooner than 10 minutes.
10.
SCORING
With reference to NoR 12:
NoR 12.2 amends RRS Appendix A in regards to the Long Distance Race.
A boat that did not finish or retired shall be scored points for the finishing place
one more than the number of boats that finished. This changes RRS Appendix
A 4.2.
11.
SAFETY REGULATIONS
In case of any incident call the race committee on channel 72.
A boat that retires from a race shall notify the Race Committee radio on
channel 72 before leaving the race area.
A safety briefing will be held following the skippers briefing.
12.
SUPPORT BOATS
Each team shall have only one support boat. Support boats are identified with
numbered flags supplied by the class. Coach, support and associated boats
shall be registered with the Class during check-in.
All team-associated boats shall comply with all reasonable instructions of the
Race Committee, Organizing Authority or Umpires.
Any team-associated boats that interferes with the racing in any way, including
creating excess wash or hindering an official boat carrying out its duties, or
failing to comply with reasonable instructions shall cause their affiliated boat(s)
to be liable for a penalty at the discretion of the Protest Committee.
A breach of this SI is not open to protest by boats but is subject to action by
the Race Committee and the IJ.
13.
DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4,
Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for
material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or
prior to, during, or after the regatta.
14.
INSURANCE
Each participating boat must hold third party liability insurance with a minimum
cover of at least 3,000,000.00 Euros (or equivalent) per incident. All
competitors at the registration are required to produce evidence of such
insurance written in French or English and clearly indicating the name of the
sailor(s) or the sailing number(s) or the CLASS registry number(s) of the
insured boat(s), including the starting date and ending date of the insurance
and the euro/USD amount of the insurance,
