An innovative convention centre in the Grande Région
The Centre Jean Prouvé, a new infrastructure for Grand
Nancy, will be opened in summer 2014. Located in an
attractive, competitive environment, this new Convention Centre includes a 20,000 sqm space that is both
flexible and functional, is bristling with the latest
generation equipment and facilities, and is carefully
designed to meet the most demanding requirements.
Right in the metropolitan heart of the Sillon Lorrain,
or the Lorraine “corridor”, Grand Nancy is located on a
major European crossroads. It forms part of the
SaarLorLux “Euroregion” of five regional authorities in
four different European states. This makes the Centre
Prouvé easily accessible from Germany, Luxemburg
and Belgium.

Excellent accessibility and accommodation
The Centre Prouvé is ideally located 1 minute from
the TGV rail station, with a wide range of hotels on
the doorstep. Half of the 3000 rooms are located right
in the city centre.
Grand Nancy region is an area where the wide
range of hotel accommodation – mainly 3* and 4* –
is proving increasingly attractive.
Factors such as quality, cultural hot spots and easy
accessibility explain the boom in hotel bookings since
the mid-2000s.
The Centre Prouvé is only a 10 minute walk from
Nancy city centre, where visitors can enjoy the
renowned cultural, culinary and tourist attractions
and a retail complex housing over 800 shops.

In addition to all its public hospitality areas, the Centre Prouvé has technical and equipment areas for use by

Functionality and design
The Centre Prouvé is a reconversion and
extension of an old and impressively
sized building: the Nancy Postal Sorting
Office. The Centre Prouvé’s architects
Marc Barani and Christophe Presle have
used the scale of the existing site and
retained the exceptional floor-to-ceiling
heights: 7 m on the first three floors and
6.50 m on the fourth floor.
These impressive open spaces continue
into the auditoriums, where the capacity,
stages and foyers offer multiple possibilities in terms of lay-out and interaction.
building, the breakout rooms, designed
as different modules within the spacious
settings, have been designed to let in
maximum daylight.
In paying homage to Jean Prouvé, Nancy’s
internationally renowned architect and
designer, the new Grand Nancy Convention Centre promises to be functional,
elegant and innovative.
The Centre Prouvé is beautifully transparent, showcasing the simple, noble
materials of concrete and glass. Inside
this functional, open and interactive

The Centre Jean Prouvé’s technological and multimedia facilities will enhance every event while encouraging and capturing public interaction. These include:

•
•
total Wi-Fi coverage
fibre-optic loops
digital display signage
digital sound, light and video channels
real-time signage in the reception hall for mainline
train times
• digital external signage for forthcoming events.
The 850- and 300-seat auditoriums can be fitted with
scenery, since their wide stages are on a level with
the bottom seating tiers and are served by goods
lifts.
The stage in the large auditorium, with 5.3t lifting
capacity and a surface area of 290 sqm, is big enough
to take a saloon car.
The spaces have been designed to ensure they can
satisfy the most ambitious of projects. On the ground
floor, an exhibition hall can host trade fairs and
exhibitions over a total surface area of 3,000 sqm
which can be partitioned into 600, 1200 or 2,400 sqm.

Eco credentials
The new Convention Centre combines design elegance
with adherence to environmental requirements. The
roof is fitted with 1,000 sqm of solar panels, so the
building meets France’s “High Environmental Quality”
standards.
The Centre Prouvé’s teams have also been trained to
adopt an environmentally responsible attitude from
start to finish in the event process.
The whole complex has signed up to a policy of
sustainable development and aims to expand the green
spaces so it evolves into a really special environment.
This is why it was awarded the title of “EcoQuartier”
by the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable
Development, Transport and Accommodation in 2009.
12
Grand Nancy: an attractive and dynamic environment
The Centre Prouvé is located in a financially competitive
area where there are 36,000 businesses and a pool of
215,000 jobs. Grand Nancy, which is currently France’s
fifth financial centre, is home to many major international groups (Saint-Gobain PAM, Daum, Novasep,
Fives Nordon, Welcoop etc).
As a result of its new business support network, Grand
Nancy also has a remarkably high rate of start-ups.
These are most evident in the health, imaging, chemistry,
materials, computing, ICT and high-tech sectors.
The Grand Nancy environment brings together competitiveness and research with the Université Unique de
Lorraine, which appears in the list of France’s Top 10
universities and in the Top 300 on the Shanghai classification.
The Université de Lorraine is a leading light within
excellence clusters ranked competitively in these
networks:
• Matéralia (nanomaterials and transformation processes)
• Fibres (fibrous materials and bioresources)
• Hydreos (ecotechnologies, water quality and management) 13
Health and Life Sciences, with 75 certified research laboratories and 2,500
researchers, is also one of Lorraine region’s specialisms. Its great strength in
basic and applied research is built on partnerships between researchers and
business: almost half the patent applications by the Université de Lorraine
are made jointly with business, especially in the fields of biotechnologies,
medicine and pharmacy, which account for a quarter of patents. Bolstered
by its influence in these different sectors, the Urban Community of Grand
Nancy has enjoyed a long tradition of hosting conventions and events.
The old convention centre, built in 1977, has played host to many prestigious scientific conventions including:
•
•
•
•
the International Congress of Aviation and Space Medicine en 1981
the 7th International Union of Pure Applied Chemistry Congress in 1988
the IUFRO International Scientific Congress in 1992
the Giropharm Pharmacy Congress in 2011
Grand Nancy will be entering a new dimension in terms of event-hosting when the ribbon is cut on the Centre Jean
Prouvé in summer 2014. Such an innovative infrastructure offering an extraordinary range of facilities to satisfy the
most diverse event requirements.

Gastronomy, culture and the art of living, French-style
The Centre Prouvé, located right in the very centre,
is close to the city’s most beautiful historic districts.
Nancy is one of the top locations for Art Nouveau and
also has some exceptional 18th century architecture:
Place Stanislas, a Unesco World Heritage Site is one of
the jewels. Lonely Planet®, publisher of the world’s most
popular guide books, gives Nancy special recognition in its
prestigious awards, ranking Place Stanislas as the fourth
most beautiful square in the world.
Nancy and the Urban Community of Grand Nancy
together form a safe and pleasant city of 300,000
inhabitants where visitors can enjoy the art of living
French-style while sampling French cuisine and culture.
Classified fourth in the list of France’s foremost artistic
cities*, Nancy provides an ideal backdrop for side events
at meetings, conventions and fairs organised at the
Centre Prouvé. *(According to the arts magazine Le Journal
The sumptuous rooms
at the City Hall on Place
Stanislas can also provide an impressive backdrop for drinks receptions
organised during events at
the Centre Jean Prouvé.

the museum of the history of iron Musée de l’Histoire
du Fer (Jarville), the Muséum-Aquarium and the Botanical Gardens (Villers-lès-Nancy). These are each leaders
in their fields with high-quality collections and a lively
schedule of temporary exhibitions.
Art Nouveau has had a major impact on Nancy’s
architecture and people (Gallé, Prouvé, Majorelle,
Vallin, etc.), while the globally renowned DAUM
crystal factory continues to astonish with the
dazzling beauty of its crystal creations.
The city offers six national museums: the fine arts
museum Musée des Beaux-Arts, the museum of the
region’s famous art movement Musée de l’Ecole
de Nancy, the regional museum Musée Lorrain,
Each season offers a different and exciting event: the
International Festival of Images, the Festival of Choral
Singing, Eastern European Theatre, the outdoor book
fair Livre sur la Place, temporary gardens, Nancy Jazz
Pulsations, Saint Nicolas celebrations, Choral Singing,
the “Neue Stücke” theatre festival, Nancyphonies, not
to mention opera, ballet, orchestral performances,
theatre, modern music, music venues, festivals, and
exhibitions, all of which give Nancy a vibrant artistic and
cultural scene.
Nancy is an attractive and welcoming city that has for
many years worked with Nancy Convention Bureau,
Nancy Tourisme et Evénements; to welcome Germanspeaking tourists or business people who represent the
largest group of foreign visitors to the city.
