A LETTER FROM YOUR RESIDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT
Where did seven months of the year go? We will be celebrating Independence Day also known as
the Fourth of July. July was named after Julius Caesar in 44 B.C. We have Canada Day on July 1 st.
Canada became a new federation with its own Constitution Act, formerly known as a National
Statuary Holiday celebrated in all provinces and territories and it’s a day off for most businesses in
Canada. Bastille Day is July 14th. This French National Day commemorates the beginning of the
French Revolution. with the storming of the Bastille on July 14th, 1789. The month of July in the
Catholic Religion is the month of the Precious Blood. The birthstone for July is the Ruby-Onyx.
The flowers are the Larkspur and Waterlily. Independence Day is a Federal Holiday in the United
States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. That day is commonly
associated with fireworks, parades, barbeques, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games and
family reunions. We also have political speeches and ceremonies. Traditional celebrating history:
Most celebrations take place outdoors. Families often celebrate Independence Day by hosting or
attending a picnic with families and friends. Decorations, streamers, balloons and red white and
blue clothing. We have many beautiful patriotic songs including “America the Beautiful, Stars and
Stripes Forever and My Country Tis of Thee.” “I’m proud to be an American”. We have a one gun
salute in the United States called a Salute to the Union. One gun salute for each state in the United
States. The first week in July is typically one of the busiest American travel periods of the year.
Start your day with a prayer for a safe summer for everyone-especially our loved ones. Enjoy your
summer and God bless you and yours my beautiful friends. SMILE!
Mary Arone,
Resident Council President/ Eucharistic Minister/Associate of the Sisters of Saint Francis
The Bank Hours are
Monday through
Friday
From 10:00-2:00pm
Dear Residents, Families and Friends –
You may have noticed our patriotic Red, White and Blue popping up throughout
Brompton Heights in preparation of Independence Day…this calls to mind one of my
favorite quotes from Erma Bombeck : “You have to love a Nation that celebrates its
independence every July 4th, not with a parade of guns, tanks and soldiers who file by
the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids
throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may
think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism”.
On July 1st, our “Manager/Resident Potluck Luncheon” will take place at 12:00 p.m. in
the Recreation Room. We will be featuring Chiavetta’s Chicken on the grill and
summer salads. Be sure to sign up early!
Our Walking Club will also meet at 3:30 pm on July 1 st – don’t forget to wear your hat,
sunscreen, and bring something to drink!
In honor of Independence Day, we will be hosting a Celebration in the Courtyard at
3:00 p.m.
On July 7th, the Brompton Bus will be transformed into a Pirate Ship just in time for our
residents and co-workers to participate in the Williamsville Old Home Days Parade!
We set sail from the Grande Lobby at 5:30 pm!
Mike Randall will be entertaining us again on July 12th at 1:45 pm. We will be treated
to both magic and puppetry as a part of his presentation. The first meeting of the
“Brompton Heights Tinkerer’s Club” will also take place at 4:00 pm on July 12 th.
Residents will be invited to create Pirate Flags as a part of our July “Sewing with
Debbie”, which will take place at 2:00 p.m. on July 14 th in the Art Studio.
On Wednesday, July 15th we will be hosting our Pirate’s Luncheon at both seatings in
the Thompson Dining Gallery.
Residents and families are invited to attend an informational presentation by Stall
Senior Medical on July 21st at 6:30 p.m. in the Recreation Room. Dr. Stall and his team
of clinicians will be offering Primary Care and Collaborative Care to the residents at
Brompton Heights who elect them as their Primary Care Providers. Please stop in to
hear more about this option and the services that they offer!
As a reminder, each Monday will feature the Photography Club at 1:15 pm and
Travelogue at 7:00 pm. Jay does a tremendous job with both of these programs, so be
sure to check them out!
Erie County Fair discount tickets will again be available in the Recreation Department.
I look forward to seeing you throughout the month! Have a very Happy 4 th of July!
Respectfully,
Beth Ann Haseley
