All students: Complete a book report on the book of your choice from the list below. See page 2 for the book report
guidelines. Once students return to school, an additional assessment will be assigned.

Summer Reading Book Report
Write a book report for the book of your choice that includes all of the information listed
below. Be sure to use your own words in complete sentences. All work must be typed and
emailed to your teacher in a word document by Wednesday, August 16 th. Any plagiarized
work will result in a zero. Please refer to the policy outlined in the student handbook.
1. Title
2. Author
3. Protagonist
4. Major Characters (excluding protagonist)
5. Point of View (specific: 1st, 3rd omniscient, or 3rd limited)
6. Setting (specific time and place)
7. Tone (three adjectives that capture the various tones of the entire work)
8. Irony (2 examples, with brief explanations)
9. Symbols (2 repeated objects or motifs – avoid characters – with brief explanations for each)
10. Theme (2, write a specific sentence about each issue or idea; do not use “you”)
11. Literary Techniques (Discuss the creative techniques the author used to make the story more
effective [ex. Flashbacks, point of view, foreshadowing, descriptive words].)
12. Explanation of Title (Why do you think the book is called this?)
13. Memorable Quotation (include page number, choose one relating to theme)
14. Plot (record key elements)
