URINARY SYSTEM MODULE

URINARY SYSTEM MODULE
Academic Year 2004-2005
Study Guide
Urinary System Objectives
At the end of this part of the course the student will be able to:
1. Acquire basic knowledge of the histological structure and the
importance of differ parts of urinary system.
2. Recognize the function and mechanism of action of renal glomeruli
and tubules. The role of kidney in the regulation of blood pH, water,
and electrolyte balance.
3. Acquire basic knowledge about the development relation, blood
supply of urogenital system in male & female.
4.
Name the causes, macroscopic, and microscopic pathological
picture of acquired and congenital diseases of the urinary tract such
as infections, obstruction, renal calculi, tumors and renal failure.
5. Recognise how to investigate for renal function including
glomerular & tubular functions.
6. State the mechanism of action & adverse effect and the major
clinical uses of diuretics in managing abnormal fluid retention and
hypertension.
