Day 1: Sacred Valley – Aguas Calientes.
Board the train from Ollantaytambo, following the Urubamba River to the starting point of your trek –
Chachabamba. A five-hour ascent follows, offering beautiful views including Choquesuysuy, the great
Urubamba River Valley and a picturesque waterfall near Wiñay Wayna (Forever Young). Ascending through
ritual baths and elegantly curved tracing, we rejoin the main Inca trail in the afternoon before reaching
Inti Punku (the Gate of the Sun) for a stunning view of the magnificent citadel. Afterwards, descend into
the valley to Aguas Calientes for your overnight stay.
Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Cusco.
Depart early and take a small coach up the steep roads to the entrance of the citadel. Undiscovered for
centuries, the uniqueness of its location and the genius that went into its construction makes the Inca
archaeological site of Machu Picchu truly one of the great wonders of the world. Here you will have a
guided tour. Afterwards, you will have time to further explore before you board PeruRail’s Vistadome train
for your return trip.
