ABOUT MYSO
In 2016-17, the organization celebrates its sixty-first
anniversary season. In honor of its many
achievements, MYSO was selected as a 2015
winner of the National Arts and Humanities Youth
Program Awards, the country’s highest honor for
youth arts programs, presented by the President’s
Commiee on the Arts and the Humanities. MYSO
received the award from First Lady Michelle
Obama in the East Room of the White House on
November 17, 2015.
MYSO is one of the most successful and respected
youth orchestra programs in the nation, regularly
recognized regionally, nationally and internationally
for its artistic excellence. With 1,000 young
musicians ages 8-18 from as many as 215 schools, 60
communities and 14 counties throughout
southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois
participating in MYSO's many music training
programs, it has become one of the largest
organizations of its kind in the United States.
Instrumental in changing lives since 1956, MYSO’s
programs foster critical thinking skills, creativity and
collaboration through more than 40 ensemble and
enrichment options, ranging from symphony, string
orchestras, jazz and steel pan bands, to music
theory, composition, and international tours all
providing high quality musical experiences to
students at various skill levels.

Bayshore Town Center
Following an intensive period of student
fundraising, the 1,000 members of MYSO, who
make up three full orchestras, seven string
orchestras, a wind ensemble, two flute choirs,
numerous jazz combos and two steel drum bands,
will perform during this FREE event. This is the
organization’s only annual event that features every
ensemble!
