Volunteer Natalie Heaster started working at the PRC in December of last year. She moved to Milton in August of 2009 right after she married her husband Matt. Natalie is a Physician Assistant and her husband Matt is a Lt. J6 with the Navy – flight student. They attend Pine Terrace Baptist Church at this time but will be moving in May when Matt finishes flight school. Natalie was unable to find a job in Milton and she wanted to do something with her spare time and she felt called to volunteer. She first learned about the PRC ministry while sitting with Larry Mathews during Thanksgiving dinner at Pine Terrace. He suggested that she volunteer for the PRC. Natalie always wears a smile on her face. She is so pleasant to work with. She just comes in and immediately looks around to see what needs to be done, then jumps right in. She has been a great asset here at the PRC doing clerical and organizational work. We will miss her dearly when she leaves in May. She says that she will be sad to leave the PRC and she hopes to find another way to volunteer and minister to others in her future journeys, “The Lord has blessed me through my volunteering at the PRC”. Olive Baptist Church D-Now 9th grade girls for sorting baby clothes for us. The African American Culture Club at Milton High School for all the diapers that they collected for us. Her child will be giving someone else a card, while perhaps also remembering her—yet she may never know. She is the silent mother who made perhaps the greatest sacrifice of all. She took the harder road, placing her child in an adoptive home. She knew it was best, but her heart and her soul still cry out, asking her “why” during the dark times in her life. Perhaps she has moved on, even married, and maybe has children of her own. But regardless of her current circumstances, she still remembers the little one she knew she had to relinquish to another. Each year on her child’s birthday she remembers, and every Mother’s Day, her heart has a sense of emptiness—for the one from whom she sometimes longs to hear the word, “Mommy.” We believe in adoption here at (name of center). It is, in the clearest sense of the word, a selfless choice. If anyone ever wonders aloud, “How could someone do that?” they simply do not understand the courage and the love that it takes to say, “You mean so much to me that I want you to have the very best.” Moses’ mother, Samuel’s mother—they both knew what it was like. The Bible records little of their heartbreak over a child given to someone else, but it was there. They must have hurt. They were real people. And with Mother’s Day here, perhaps we ought to pause and remember in prayer those who chose what was for them “the best,” over what might have been easier choices. They took the harder road, knowing full well what they were giving up, and the pain of loss that would ensue. On Mother’s Day, let’s salute them as well— the silent mothers for whom there may be no cards.
