The Cystic Fibrosis Lifestyle Foundation (CFLF) proudly presents the Tenth Annual Champ’s
Challenge for Cystic Fibrosis held at the Basin Harbor Club, in Vergennes, VT on July 17, 2016.
Please consider this opportunity to support one of Vermont’s most beautiful cycling events, while
helping improve the quality of life of people throughout Vermont and the United States through
improved access to recreation and active lifestyles.
About Champ’s Challenge:
This fundraising event will offer cyclists a choice of either an 8- or 40-mile course (with room for
personal adaptation). Both rides are fully supported, and will start at Basin Harbor, and take participants
on a scenic tour of Addison County. A 5k Run/Walk is also offered within the beautiful winding trails of
the Basin Harbor Club property. Upon completion, the 150 to 200 participants are provided a waterfront
BBQ lunch, which includes raffle drawings and give-away prizes, along with recognition of sponsors
and top fundraisers.
Our goal for 2016 is to raise over $60,000 again, which sponsorships contribute greatly toward. If you
are interested in becoming involved as an event sponsor, a commitment is needed by April 15, 2016.
About the CFLF
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system with
abnormally thick mucus, causing chronic congestion, bacterial infections, loss of lung function and
nutritional compromise. While lung transplants and early mortality are a common result, patients have
tremendous resilience, and are fighting for stronger, longer lives with every resource possible.
The Champ's Challenge for Cystic Fibrosis benefits the CFLF and has raised over $200,000 since
2007. Proceeds support the “CF Recreation Grant” program, helping people with cystic fibrosis locally
and nationally, afford activities like season ski passes, gym memberships, summer or sports camps,
lessons for swimming, horseback riding, dance, and multitudes of other exercise-based activities.
Exercise is a critical part of thriving with cystic fibrosis, but is often cost prohibitive for families and
individuals faced with tens of thousands of dollars of medical cost each year. To date, the CFLF has
awarded over 800 Recreation Grants totaling more than $450,000.
As an adult living with cystic fibrosis since birth, I founded the CFLF in 2003 because I knew the
benefits of hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, swimming and cycling on my lungs, and today am able to thrive
with normal lung function. I want to pay this forward to others that may achieve greater empowerment
toward "Living Stronger and Living Longer”.
