School Wide Positive Behavior Support Revised 2/27/12 Major and Minor Behavior Definitions Behavior Assault Major/Minor Definition Major Serious physical contact with intent to cause physical harm or injury to another person. Actions include but are not limited to hitting, kicking, pushing, shoving, hair pulling, scratching, spitting, tripping, stabbing Fighting Major Illegal Substance/ or imitation of Sexual Harassment Major Sexual Misconduct Major Theft Major Vandalism Bullying (see footer) Major Minor/Major Cheating (see footer) Defacing Property Minor Disrespect Minor Major Punching, kicking, and/or shoving with possibility of injury involving 2 or more participants Possession of and/or misuse of substances such as drugs (illegal/prescribed) or imitation of having/using such substance/s Communication (verbal/nonverbal) of sexual content with the intent to intimidate or offend Unwanted physical affection, inappropriate touching of self or others, indecent or unacceptable exposure of one’s body Theft of school’s or others’ property that results in destruction, damage, or loss Deliberate or malicious destruction of property Physical Definition: Overbearing person who habitually badgers, threatens and intimidates others Relational Definition: Manipulation calculated to hurt or control another’s ability to maintain rapport with peers. Behaviors include but are not limited to rumors, gossip and social exclusion Other Definition: Verbal/nonverbal attack based on ability, gender, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, or religion Minor Major Disruptive Minor Horseplay Inappropriate language/ gesture Minor Minor/Major Lack of Effort/ Refusal to work Misbehavior Trading Property Minor Minor Minor Viewing, sharing, and/or using the answers or work of another with the intent to use it as their own To mar the surface or appearance of. Ex: To deface a wall, desk or another student’s work/property by writing on it Brief or low intensity failure to respond to adult request Ex: Talking back, not following directions, eye roll, refusal to complete assignments High intensity interaction with peers or towards staff member which could include arguing, talking back, refusal to follow school/class directions, procedures, or rules-- communicated in writing, verbally, or in tone of voice Disruption of learning by throwing objects, excessive talking, making other noises, out of seat, etc. Rough, boisterous, or rowdy play or pranks Language: To use profanity, curse, or swear Gesture: “The bird” or any other gesture which implies a derogatory connotation. Minor: Not directed at another person Major: When directed at an individual/s Refusal to complete assigned work or actively participate in class activities Improper or immoral behavior To buy, sell, or exchange/trade Minor to Major: 3 strikes rule rd On the 3 occurrence of the SAME Minor behavior that behavior becomes a Major Exception to the 3 strikes rule Bullying: When this behavior occurs the teacher that witnessed or was reported to will call the parent of the “bully” ONLY. The person that was bullied is sent to the counselor. Next occurrence of Bullying turns to a Major. (teacher’s discretion) nd Cheating: 2 occurrence becomes a Major Major behaviors result in an office referral
