Zygote Residency Application

Zygote Residency Program
Zygote is currently soliciting applications for two separate,
two-week residencies in the Summer and Winter of 2012.
Qualified residents will be established printmakers from
the US and abroad, seeking to work on a special project in
Zygote’s facilities in Cleveland, Ohio. The recipient will
receive: two-week stay in the ZPASS loft (live-work
accommodations), a stipend of $200, as well as full access
to the print shop during their two-week residency. In
exchange, Zygote requires that resident’s give a lecture or
informal demonstration during their residency, and a work
made at Zygote be donated to our archive. Travel costs
are not included in the residency award.
Zygote Intern SWAP
An additional component of the ZPASS will be the Intern Residency Award. This program
will be offered once a year in the summer for a period of two weeks. Zygote Press currently
offers internships to college students from around the country who wish to learn more about
printmaking and/or non-profits arts administration. Award recipients will receive: a twoweek stay in the ZPASS loft (live-work accommodations), a stipend of $100, as well as full
access to the print shop during their residency, when not involved with intern activities. In
exchange, Interns will commit to 15 service hours per week for their exchange.
Through the Residency Award, Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with visiting
artists, contract printers and work with Zygote staff on special projects during their stay. In
addition, they will learn the administrative skills needed to work in non-profit administration
while being provided with time to create their own work. This valuable skill is often
overlooked in Visual Arts Degree programs and it often takes artists many years to learn how
to balance the skills of making a living while creating their artwork.
ZPASS Description
The live-work apartment is located in Zygote’s E.30th Street
building in the heart of Cleveland’s burgeoning ArtsQuarter.
Considered to be the epicenter of Cleveland’s Asia Town, this midtown location has access to dining, shopping, parking and public
transit. Just a mile from the heart of downtown Cleveland and wellplaced near the highway, Zygote Press is an ideal location for a
resident artist to participate in the local community while living in a
vibrant urban setting. Zygote Press staff and Board will aid artists in
finding resources if they are not familiar with the area.
The ZPASS space is located on the second floor of Zygote’s building
and has already been designated a live-work space. The twobedroom studio is a heated 1,500 square feet with ample work space,
