Job Title: Reporting: Programs Manager Executive Director, UrbanArts Position Description: An integral part of the management team at UrbanArts, the Programs Manager reports to the Executive Director. Responsible for the development, delivery and management of assigned programs, and the development of new programs and community education, the Programs Manager provides supervision, leadership and direction to the staff team and is responsible for community outreach, program development, monitoring and evaluation, and collaborating with community partners. The Programs Manager is responsible for engaging youth and teaching leadership skills while working closely with a specialized team of Program Facilitators to enhance the mission of UrbanArts. Primary Responsibilities: As part of the management team (ED, OM, PM), the Programs Manager leads in the development and delivery of effective human resources policies and best practices in response to identified staff and volunteer operational training and professional development needs; Develops, manages, and supports delivery of UrbanArts programs/workshops (including It’s A Girl Thing! Young Women’s Leadership Development and Annual Leadership Conference, Say Word?!Spoken Word, Comedy/Improv, SnackNChat, Road2Leadership, Culinary Arts), activities (music, dance, visual art and photography, theatre, spoken word, comedy) and special events (festivals, Summer Arts, Culture Shock); Engages youth leaders (staff, interns, summer staff, and volunteers) in program development, delivery and assessment; Initiates community outreach by liaising with schools, community organizations/ coalitions and agencies as a representative of UrbanArts; Works with the management team to prepare, monitor, review and communicate individual program and project budgets by maintaining effective protocols for recording and tracking financial and statistical data; Actively contributes to program/project enrolment, intake, participation and attendance; Creates, manages and supports an effective system for strategic outcomes management through planning, goal setting, tracking, measurement, analysis and reporting; Provides crisis intervention and supportive services in response to identified needs of youth. 5 Bartonville Ave. E. Contracts artists, facilitators and staff and ensures they have reasonable access to the resources (time, spaces, budget, personnel) required. Community/Client Relationships Works closely with current and potential community partners to strengthen and enhance relationships with young people and the community. Identifies developing needs for programming to support the skill development and personal growth needs of young people and the community. Supervisory Establishes safe and supportive work practises for staff and student participants as an essential part of UrbanArts mission. Develops and delivers effective policies and practises to ensure that staff and interns are supported in their key roles. Financial Provides substantial input during the annual budget planning cycle to ensure growth, sustainable capacity and stability. Manages the systematic recording, analysis and reporting of financial and statistical information as a basis for planning, program assessment and legal compliance. Demands: Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Qualifications: Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Comfort and enthusiasm about working with marginalized youth from inner city neighbourhoods through various arts/mediums as a vehicle for personal and professional growth. Expertise in program planning, design and delivery, including goal setting and evaluation techniques to “enhance neighbourhoods by engaging youth in community development through the arts.” Working Conditions The Programs Manager normally works in an office setting at the Bartonville or the John Street location, although there are times the incumbent will be off-site at schools, facilities operated by other organizations and in the community. While the majority of the responsibilities will take place during regular operating hours (9:00 am – 9:00 pm) on weekdays, there will be occasions when weekend duties will be scheduled. All time worked in excess of 44 hours/week will be compensated with lieu time in accordance with the Employment Standards Act, and at the approval of the Executive Director so as to not affect the programming schedule.
