Stop-motion animation
Learn to create stop-motion animations quickly and easily using Adobe Photoshop. This process can also be
used to create time-lapse videos such as sun sets and flowers blooming.
1. The files for this project are stored in Stop
Motion Images.zip. To use these files you will
need to extract them from the zip file.
Save Stop Motion Images.zip to your
computer then right click on it and choose
Extract All. Follow the prompts to extract the
required files to a new folder.
2. Open Photoshop and create a new document
by selecting
File  New…
3. Set the dimensions to 512px x 340px
4. Open the timeline panel by selecting
Window  Timeline
5. Select Create video timeline from the
dropdown then click
.
6. This will create a timeline for you to work
with.
7. Click on the
icon and choose Add
Media… to import your image sequence.

8. Browse to the folder you created in Step 1
and press Ctrl + A to select all files.
9. Click Open
10. Your images will be added to the timeline
however the animation will run very slow and
may have a blank screen at the beginning.
11. To remove the blank screen, delete the blank
layer (Layer 1) by selecting it then clicking the
delete layer icon
.
(It will be the bottom layer in your layers
panel)
To speed up your animation you need to
change the duration of each frame.
12. Do this by clicking the Convert to frame
animation button in the bottom left of the
timeline panel.
13. Select all frames by clicking the Panel Menu
in the top right of the Timeline Panel and
choosing Select all frames

14. Change the duration of all frames to 0.2 by
clicking on the dropdown at the bottom of
any frame.
15. Export your animation by clicking
File  Export  Render Video
16. Give your animation a name and take note of
which folder your animation will be saved to.
17. Use the following settings:
Format: H.264
Preset: High Quality
Size: Document Size
