AFA Remembers D-Day, June 6, 1944
On this day, 70 years ago, the largest invasion force in world history stormed the beaches of Nazicontrolled Normandy, France. Nearly 160,000 Allied troops landed on the beach – a heavily fortified, 50mile stretch – in the significant operation known as D-Day. More than 9,000 Allied soldiers were killed or
wounded on the beaches of Normandy.
The Air Force Association (AFA) remembers and salutes the heroism and valor of the American and
Allied forces that fought for freedom on this day, so many years ago. They did not accept anything less
than victory. As we celebrate the 70th anniversary of D-Day, join us in honoring the extraordinary juncture
of bravery and dedication of the millions who served in World War II. We salute the many troops who
embarked on this unforgettable military undertaking in the name of liberty. Let us never not forget their
perseverance and sacrifice so that future generations could remain free.
