An Important Update from Legacy Laboratory Services
CBC (Complete Blood Count)
CBC Orderable changes will take effect on December 17, 2014. The new orderables are:
 CBC WITHOUT Auto Diff
 CBC w/ Auto Diff
Legacy Laboratory Services is discontinuing the Automated Blood Count (ABC) and replacing it with
Complete Blood Count WITHOUT Auto Diff (CBCN) to agree with the American Medical Association
(AMA) definition. The AMA definition for a CBC does not include a differential. Effective 12/17/14, a
CBC order will be a 'hemogram' only. Please specify CBC with Auto Diff when you need the
differential included. When automated differential results meet our internal criteria, a smear review
and/or manual differential may be reflexed at no extra cost.

Legacy EPIC and Legacy WEBLink will be aligned with these changes.

For clients that transmit electronic orders to Legacy, interface codes and test names will change;
please refer to the Outreach Interfaced Orders chart on page 2 and make updates to your system
accordingly.

For clients that submit non-Legacy paper requisitions, please specify CBC with Auto Diff when you
need the differential included. For paper requisitions with only “CBC” as the requested test, CBC
WITHOUT Auto Diff will be ordered.

For clients that submit Legacy paper requisitions, if your current requisition specifies CBC (with auto
diff) and ABC (hemogram), no action is required. Legacy requisitions are being updated with the new
names and will be distributed as our old stock is depleted.
