SEDAN CHAIRS
SUPERIOR WORKMANSHIP
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
In Europe, the sedan chair was popular in the 17th and 18th
centuries, and its use spread from Italy to France, England
and Scotland. The chairs could easily be carried through the
narrow streets of many European cities. Sedan chairs for the
wealthy were decorated, carved and painted while those for
the lower classes were of a simple design.
Precision-engineered from high quality stainless steel, the
Sedan and Grand Sedan Clocks are hand polished to a mirror
finish. The lustre will not fade, and is easily maintained by
buffing with a soft cloth.
Once open, the controls for setting the time and changing
the battery are found on the rear of the face/movement.
In 1738, a fare system was established for Scottish sedans. Each
sedan was assigned a number and the driver had to have a
license to carry passengers. A trip within a city cost six pence
and a day's rental was four shillings. A sedan was even used
as an ambulance in Scotland's Royal Infirmary.
The Dalvey Sedan and Grand Sedan Clocks have been inspired
by the distinctive circular flat pendant clocks hung in 18th
century sedan chairs throughout European cities. The Dalvey
clocks are made from highly finished stainless steel with large
convex glass lenses and each comes with a stand.

TO ACCESS CONTROLS
• (Fig.i) Place the clock, in the
flat of your hand, face upwards.
Lightly place your other hand
over the face ensuring equal
pressure on glass and rotate in
an anti-clockwise direction to
unlock the bayonet fit.
• The friction between your
hand and the clock should be
enough to rotate the clock
face/movement in the opposite
direction of the clock body, and
the clock will be released. Once
released, carefully invert so that
the clock face/movement falls
out safely into your other hand.
• (Fig.ii) To start the clock, open the
battery cover on the back and
remove the small protective
tab from the battery. Replace
the battery cover.
• Please Note: the time
set control should be
adjusted in an anticlockwise rotation only.
