Independent Reading: Students identify the parts of the a book, demonstrate proper book handling, and show
understanding of reading top to bottom and left to right.
Writing: Students understand and use singular and plural nouns.
Math: Students will compose and decompose numbers through 5 using concrete objects.
Science: Students will observe, discuss, and record how materials can be changed by heating and cooling.
Social Studies: TSW learn the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance they say each morning. Students will practice reciting
the pledge.
Tuesday
Word Study: Students identify upper- and lowercase letters and their sounds. Students demonstrate phonological
awareness through isolating and blending word parts.
Shared Reading: Students use the cover, title, and illustrations to predict what might happen next in a text.
Independent Reading: Students identify the parts of a book, demonstrate proper book handling, and indicate their
understanding of reading top to bottom and left to right.
Writing: Students incorporate nouns while writing.
Math: Students will compose and decompose numbers through 5 using concrete objects.
Science: Students will observe, discuss, and record how materials can be changed by heating and cooling.
Social Studies: Students learn that in addition to a U.S. flag, we also honor and respect the Texas flag. One way we do is
by saying the pledge to the Texas flag.
Wednesday:
Word Study: Students identify the sound for the letter N.
Shared Reading: Students use the cover, title, and illustrations to predict what might happen next in a text.
Independent Reading: Students make predictions while reading independently. Students demonstrate print awareness
through proper book handling and reading top to bottom and left to right.
Writing: Students use personal pronouns I and my to share ideas.
Math: Students will compose and decompose numbers through 5 using concrete objects.
Science: Students will observe, discuss, and record how materials can be changed by heating and cooling.
Social Studies: TSW learn the Texas pledge.
Thursday:
Word Study: Students identify letters, words, and sentences within text.
Shared Reading: Students discuss purposes for reading and use text features to make predictions.
Independent Reading: Students discuss purposes for reading. Students demonstrate print awareness through proper
book handling and reading top to bottom and left to right.
Writing: Students use personal pronouns I and my to share ideas.
Math: Students will compose and decompose numbers through 5 using concrete objects.
Science: Students will observe, discuss, and record how materials can be changed by heating and cooling.
Social Studies: TSW express in their own words what they have learned about the Texas flag and pledge.
Friday:
Word Study: Students identify the sound for the letter S.
Shared Reading: With teacher assistance, students identify different forms of media and different purposes for reading.
Independent Reading: Students read independently and make predictions about what will happen next.
Writing: Students generate ideas for writing and share their ideas with others.
Math: Students will compose and decompose numbers through 5 using concrete objects.
Science: Students will observe, discuss, and record how materials can be changed by heating and cooling.
Social Studies: Review learning and spark student’s interest in Constitution Day. Introduce celebrations as a way we
honor the rich heritage of or country and to explain that we have responsibilities as citizens of the U.S.
