Lower School News: This week J3 welcomed Mr Hopkin from the University of Worcester, into their class for 3 days in preparation for his final school practice which commences in January, his enthusiasm demonstrates what an asset he will be in the New Year. Thank you to J6 for their Remembrance service that they presented and we are now preparing to lead our Christingle Service at Peopleton church on Friday 27th November, parents of J6 are warmly welcome to join us at the church for a 9am start. Mrs Ridge Art News: Year 8 visited Worcester Cathedral for a day of art. We made a series of sketches using decorative details found in the Cathedral and whilst we drew, Sara Hayward provided us with a detailed account of the foundation of the first monastery. We were reminded of the significance of The Magna Carta. The pupils asked her if she could open King John's tomb but she wasn't keen on this idea! We were privileged to be able to take part in the Act of Remembrance outside at the war memorial for 11 o clock. This was a moving experience and our pupils acted with a great deal of maturity in their response. Mr Heyes and I were very proud to be accompanying them. Our drawings and prints from the afternoon workshop with the artist will be used to develop further work back in the classroom right up until Christmas. Thank you, Year 8, for your hard work on the day. Mrs.Mellor Christmas Carol Service: Just two weeks until our full rehearsal at Pershore Abbey on Thursday 27th ! Rehearsals have been in full swing this week, backing tracks have been recorded, music has been written, words are being learnt and spirits have been high! Most words are learnt, but please make sure you know them as from the end of next week there will be no words – if you need new words please see me! If your child is unable to attend the Carol Service, please can you write a letter so we are aware as it makes rehearsals and seating plans less complicated! Miss Buzzing Mathematics Puzzle No 4: The Halloween puzzle proved to be very popular with pupils from all ages and abilities within the school. I received over 40 entries ranging from Year 2 up to Year 11. The winning entrant was from Alex Whitehead in Year 9 with runners up being Hemione Stephenson and Harry Boorn, both from Year 7. Congratulations to all who did complete the puzzle correctly. The new maths puzzle is attached– otherwise a copy of the problem can be found in my classroom on one of the notice boards which is in N4. The closing date for this problem is Monday 23rd November. Good luck. Miss Brookes. Results from the Past Week: U16 Rugby V’s Bredon: Won; 62-0 An empathic win by the U16 team. They won the last encounter but it was a much closer affair. In this case the boys absolutely shone. They were able to weather the storm of Braedon’s large forwards through excellent defence and created some wonderful trys. Scorers – Ted Taylor Jake Preston (2) Alex Michell (2) Oli Dimmock (3) Dom Partridge Tom Dayer Conversions:Tom Dayer – (7) Some wonderful team and individual performances ensured an exciting and effective performance. U14 Rugby V’s Bredon: Lost 38-12 Having won the last encounter away from home we were hoping for a similar result, however on a smaller pitch and with a couple of players unavailable we knew it would be a tough task. Bredon are a big side and their direct approach ids hard to deal with. We have some excellent runners but on a smaller pitch it is difficult to find the space required. The boys did well though with Alex Whitehead scoring a try and a conversion as well as Seb Murray finishing off a backs move to score in the corner. The U14’s face Malvern College next week. Next Weeks Fixtures: Students should check the PE notice board to see if they are involved in fixtures. Tuesday 17th November U9 Football V’s Heathfield.
