ATI is not responsible for components that are damaged due to improper installation. OEM Forend Removal A ! Point the rifle in a safe direction and place the saftey in the "on" position. Next remove the magazine, pull back, and carefully inspect the chamber to be sure the rifle is unloaded. 1 Begin by removing the original handguard, depress the delta ring (contains a strong compressed spring) and remove one side of the handguard and then the other as seen in Figure 1. If you cannot depress the delta ring enough to remove the handguard there are 2 options: 1.) The Buddy System - With the help of another party, depress the delta ring while the other party removes each side of the handguard. 2.) Purchase a handguard removal tool 70.0921.01 1 1 AR-15 Aluminum 6-Sided Mid-Length Free Float Forend with Slotted Barrel Nut OEM Forend Removal -Continued A 2 Detach the lower and upper receiver by depressing and removing the the front and rear take down pins as seen in Figure 2. Next, release the charging handle, remove the bolt, and then remove the charging handle. Figure 1 2 3 Next, remove the Flash Hider by loosening with a 3/4" wrench and threading it off as seen in Figure 3. 3 70.0921.01 2 AR-15 Aluminum 6-Sided Mid-Length Free Float Forend with Slotted Barrel Nut OEM Forend Removal -Continued A 4 Remove the taper pins from the front sight base by using a small punch to drive out the pins from the left side of the rifle as seen in Figure 4 (Non-Ejection Port Side) and coming out on the right side (Ejection Port Side). 4 5 Once the taper pins have been removed, slide both the front sight and the front handguard guide off the barrel as seen in Figure 5. 5 70.0921.01 3 AR-15 Aluminum 6-Sided Mid-Length Free Float Forend with Slotted Barrel Nut OEM Forend Removal -Continued A 6 Next, using a AR-15 wrench as seen in Figure 6A, remove the delta ring by lining up the notches in the wrench with the delta ring nut and loosening. Then slide the delta ring off the barrel as seen in Figure 6B. 6A 6 Sided Forend Installation B 1 6B Begin by sliding the barrel nut onto the barrel and hand tighten to the upper receiver until the rear of the barrel nut is flush against the receiver. Complete the tightening by using the AR-15 wrench as seen in Figure 1. NOTE: Torque to 30-35 foot-pounds with a 5 pin wrench. Do not over torque the barrel nut during installation. Any damage due to over tightening or applying excessive torque to the Barrel Nut is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. 1 70.0921.01 4 AR-15 Aluminum 6-Sided Mid-Length Free Float Forend with Slotted Barrel Nut 6-Sided Forend Installation -Continued B 2 Make sure that one of the holes in the barrel nut lines up with the opening for the gas tube, as the gas tube will be re-installed as seen in Figure 2. 2 3 Install the 6-sided free float forend by placing the forend over the barrel and threading it onto the barrel nut, thread the free float forend so the the forend and barrel nut are lined up flush to the receiver as seen in Figure 3. 3 70.0921.01 5 AR-15 Aluminum 6-Sided Mid-Length Free Float Forend with Slotted Barrel Nut 6-Sided Forend Installation -Continued B 4 Install the (1)10-32 x 3/8" set screw into the last screw hole at the rear of forend bottom position as seen in Figure 4A . Make sure the forend is aligned with the barrel nut so that the set screws will locate into one of the slots on the barrel nut. Thread the set screws until flush with the forend as seen in Figure 4B. 4A 5 Next, reinstall the gas block and gas tube. If using a front sight, re-install the front sight and gas tube, next make sure the taper pins are re-installed from the right side (Ejection Port Side). Reinstall the flash hider. 6 Finally, reinstall the charging handle then the bolt and reassemble the upper receiver to the lower receiver as seen in Figure 5. 4B 5 70.0921.01 6
