2016 Fall Meeting
Central Counties Chapter – President’s Report
I hope 2016 was a great year for all of you. While our participation levels remain lower than
we would like, we have enjoyed another excellent tournament season. I would like to
congratulate all of our tournament winners! Thank you to all of our sponsors, our Chapter
Professionals who played and hosted events, and all of their members who were able to
participate in our tournament programs this year.
The Board will continue to work on growing our membership in 2017. I encourage all of you
to continue to reach out to the Professionals who are new to our Section/Chapter and
promote the opportunities available for them in the Central Counties Chapter.
Our effort to create a Central Counties Chapter Junior Championship; partnered with the
Philadelphia Junior Tour, had a fantastic inaugural start in 2016. This year's event was hosted
at Blue Ridge Country Club with 80 players involved. We will continue to hold a Junior
Championship in 2017; with the idea of changing venues on a yearly basis.
This was the first year for the Chapter Match Play Championship and we believe it was a great
success. If you did not have an opportunity to play this year, you should certainly try to make
an effort to participate in 2017.
I would like to thank all of our Board members for their effort, service, and ideas to help the
Chapter keep moving in a positive direction this past year. Thank you to our staff at the
Section office: Geoff Surrette, Barb Creveling, and Sue Unger for their dedication to our
Chapter and all of their exceptional efforts with making our organization run smoothly.
It was an honor to serve as your president for the last two years and I would like to thank the
Chapter members for giving me that opportunity. I hope that everyone has a great off season
and enjoys some quality time with their families.
Sincerely,
Rick Gibney

Philadelphia Assistants Organization Report
It was another very successful year for the Philadelphia Assistants’ Organization. Membership
has remained steady while tournament participation has increased.
Thank you to the PAO Committee Chairs, Stephen Frederick, Ron Pine, and Jeff Sikina along
with your respective committee members for your dedication and support. There is a lot of
time required from your positions and without your help the PAO wouldn’t be the
organization that it is today.
At the beginning of the season our goals remained the same; offer quality education and
playing opportunities while giving back to the community. I can say with certainty that we
achieved our goals and in turn the PAO is in a great place. Thank you to Tom Carpus for
spending time with the PAO this spring to talk about the Rules of Golf, I know that I can speak
for everyone that attended when I say that we all walked away from the day with a greater
knowledge of the rules.
We would also like to congratulate PAO Member Jordan Gibbs on his recent victory in the
Philadelphia PGA Section Championship played at Philadelphia Cricket Club. Jordan played
some phenomenal golf over three days, we’re always excited to see our PAO Members
winning big events, and it doesn’t get much bigger than this. Congratulations to Jordan and
best of luck at Sunriver!
The success of the PAO would not be possible without the help and support of our host
facilities and their memberships. We had some fantastic opportunities to play some of the
best clubs in the Philadelphia area. Thank you to the following clubs and their professionals
for hosting and congratulations to the winners of these events.

Finally we would like to thank our sponsors. Without their support our organization would
not have the opportunities it does. A special thank you to Tom Carroll and Rick Rosetti and
Cobra Puma Golf for again being our Title Sponsor for 2016. Other generous sponsors include
Dennis McGugan (Jack Jolly & Son), Richie Gibbons (Fennec, Martin Golf, Imperial, Sterling Cut

The Player Development Committee has been hard at work this season capping off an exciting

This year was a very frustrating year in trying to find volunteers for our consumer events.
These events are a great way to market yourself and your facility. If you would like to
volunteer for next year, please let us know. We would like to compile a list of Professionals
that we can call to help us out with these events.
The committee focuses on six different objectives to provide player development programs to
our members and to the community. If you would like more information on any of the below
programs, please feel free to reach out.

The PGA Junior League is a phenomenal program to implement at your facility, and everyone
has seen tremendous success. Participation in the program among our Section continues to
grow as you can see by the numbers over the last 4 years:

• Didn’t earn spot in Regional
2015

Consumer Events
We have an active consumer event schedule throughout the year and are always looking for
professionals to volunteer their time. These are fantastic opportunities for you to market
yourself and your facility by offering instruction to the masses at unique locations across the
region. The North Coast Golf Show is a fantastic example as we had over 1,000 individuals
receive a free lesson from a PGA Professional over three days. The 2016 consumer event

Thank you to those that volunteered for an event, we appreciate your support!!
College Connection Program
2016 was our third year for this program and we are looking to grow even further next year by
reaching out to alumni organizations for additional funding. The program is for business
school students at Villanova University and consists of 4 Get Golf Ready sessions at local clubs.
The program emphasizes the business and networking connections that the game of golf
possesses. In 2016, we had 35 business students enrolled in the program and participants
were split among 3 host facilities in our area. We would like to thank the Head Professionals
and the staff from Aronimink Golf Club (Jeff Kiddie), Philadelphia Country Club (Scott Reilly),
and Llanerch Country Club (Chris Wilkinson) for their time and support in hosting this
program.
Golf in Schools Program
Our Golf in Schools program has seen a great amount of support and interest from local area
schools and administrators. We have partnered with the Golf Association of Philadelphia and
together we use SNAG golf to introduce physical education teachers to the curriculum, and
were in at least eight different schools/districts in 2016. We are supporting this program
through our Philadelphia Junior Golf Foundation as well as from support/grants from local
schools that want to participate. Our goal is to find sponsors for an area of schools to
purchase the SNAG equipment for the schools. Our goal is to purchase more SNAG kits and to
put golf into more schools each year. We are currently working on some concrete long-term
goals as to where we want this program to go in the future. I would like to thank all of our
professionals for their time and support of this program.
Facility Meetings & Member Education
The Section’s Player Development Director, Leila Mackie, whom everyone should know, has
visited over 85 facilities since she started in 2013. Leila’s facility visits offer insights into PGA
player development programs as well as providing guidance and support for new ideas
created by you! Leila has a playbook full of topics covering junior golf, women’s golf,
membership, social media and marketing and PGA member benefits. She is also there to
gather feedback from members about the Section’s operations. We also invite every one of
you to submit a best practice to Leila; it can be about any positive program/idea that you have
implemented at your facility. I also encourage EVERY FACILITY to invite Leila for a visit, it is
time well spent.
Equipment Rental Program
Did you know that our Section offers equipment rentals for YOUR facility programs? It’s true!
You can rent Golfzilla, an inflatable hippopotamus, Birdie Ball, SNAG kits, and inflatable nets
for your facility programs. Simply call Leila Mackie at the Section office to reserve your day
and time in advance. Facilities have used the equipment for junior golf camps, family events,
member guest tournaments, etc. Over 55 facilities took advantage of this program in 2016!
All of the rental proceeds go to our Philadelphia Junior Golf Foundation. In the past 2 years
the program has raised over $10,000 for our Foundation!
In conclusion, I would like to invite all of you to take advantage of these player development
programs and reach out to Leila, myself, or any of the committee members. We are here to be
ambassadors for our Section and to help you at your facilities grow the game and increase
your bottom line through player development programs.

Instruction Committee Report
I hope everyone had a successful and productive season. The Instruction Committee has had
a successful 2016 and is preparing for 2017.
SECTION EDUCATION EVENT – NOVEMBER 14 – 15, 2016
The Education Committee in cooperation with the Instruction Committee is hosting a 2 day,
Fall Summit. The event will be held at White Manor Country Club. We have many wonderful
speakers slated for the day covering many different industry topics.
The Instruction portion of the summit will be conducted by a few folks who will be presenting
in the Philadelphia Section for the first time. KEVIN WEEKS of Cog Hill Golf & Country Club is a
Golf Digest Top 50 Instructor and sits on the National Instruction Committee. JOHN GRAHAM
& JAMES RIDYARD will share their insights and global experience. John joins us from New
York State and James will join us from the UK.
WEBSITE VIDEOS - Update
The committee spent many hours with Ken Selinger from CCI Video/Inside Golf to create
professional, video instruction segments for the website. At this writing, I have been in the
editing room with Stacey Martin (a master editor) to ensure we have a quality product for the
website. I look forward to the finished product soon.
EDUFII - Update
Edufii is a platform which was developed as a means by which coaches may communicate
with athletes in a private training space. We have tested this among the committee members
and will be inviting section instructors to join the conversation. We hope this will be a way for
teachers and coaches to share information and create dialog, section wide.
NORTH COAST GOLF SHOW – JANUARY 13 – 15, 2017
We will need volunteers to teach at the North Coast Show as well as onstage talent. We had a
terrific response last year and we are looking forward to a successful show in January. This is
a wonderful, free opportunity to show your skills to the public.
Please contact me or anyone on the committee if you are interested in participating and
representing the Philadelphia Section.
FIRST ANNUAL - 2 DAY TEACHING & COACHING SUMMIT – APRIL 18 – 19, 2017
The planning is already underway to host our first 2 day summit! We will host top coaches
with national recognition as well as talent, home grown from our own section. Our plans
include interactive workshops for: putting, chipping, how to conduct a short game school,
club/putter fitting, distance & finesse wedges, playing lessons, developing practice programs,
how to facilitate practice, group training, skills testing, stats keeping & analysis, training aids,
golf fitness, how to build your business, how to build your brand, relationship marketing, how
to prepare/develop your juniors for college golf, and so much more.
2016 Recap:
April – James Seickmann @ White Manor
We were thrilled to host James Seickmann, short game guru, for an entire day. He
created a wonderful combination of seminar and hands on opportunities for all of
those in attendance & everyone received a copy of James’ book, Your Short Game
Solution. Thank you again to Andy Miller, John Rutecki and John Dunigan.
June – Interactive/Hands On - Golf School
We hosted 18 section professionals at Chester Valley for a Tuesday evening seminar.
They went through the paces of participating in a golf school. We covered the goals,
setup, facilitation and monetization of hosting an event for other professionals or
members and students. Not only were the attendees able to work on their own skills
for 4 hours, they went away with fresh ideas in this fun and fast moving environment.
August – Teacher of the Year Conference
I attended a one day conference hosted by PGA Magazine at the beautiful West
Chester Country Club in Rye, NY. The goal was to help create and contribute to the
direction of the National Instruction Committee. The day was well spent with TOY’s
from other sections. The value of sharing ideas and experiences is always priceless.
In conclusion, I would like to thank the Instruction Committee for their continued involvement
and dedication to providing opportunities for fellow Section professionals to grow and
enhance their knowledge and careers.

The Philadelphia Section Junior Tour has once again enjoyed a successful 2016 season. With
participation at an all-time high along with 82 Junior Tour events and 9 Drive, Chip and Putt
Qualifiers in the books, we are still constantly striving to improve and stay progressive. The
expansion of the Precision Pro Golf Elite Tour; which is recognized by the AJGA for
Performance Based Entry and the Junior Golf Scoreboard (JGS) is just another example.
Created in 2013, the Precision Pro Golf Elite Tour was designed to offer the highest level
competition in the region for our Junior Tour members who are 13-18 years old. The
Precision Pro Golf Elite Tour events are 36-holes and offer an opportunity for national
rankings.
Below is a summary of the 2016 highlights:
• 854 Registered boys & girls (As of 8/29/16) - 4 less than 2015
• 82 Philly Junior Tour Events - Same as 2015

Tournament Committee Report
As the 2016 season comes to a close, I want to thank everyone who came out to play and support our
tournament program. I want to personally thank Geoff Surrette and the entire tournament staff for
their hard work and dedication that goes into making our tournament program the best in the country.
The strength of our tournament program year in and year out depends upon our sponsors and host
facilities. Thank you to our sponsors who generously support our events with their hard earned dollars
and products. Please take the time to reach out to these folks and thank them for their support! Thank
you to our host facilities and their members who sacrifice their golf courses so we have somewhere to
play. It is important that we remember to thank them for the use of their facilities, support their staff
members, and conduct ourselves in a professional manner when visiting our host clubs. Finally, thank
you to everyone who played in and supported our events. It is my hope that through the many
different playing opportunities available, you were able to find something that fit your liking on the
schedule.
Thank you to The Philadelphia Cricket Club for their hard work and sacrifice in hosting the 2016
Philadelphia PGA Professional Championship. Congratulations to Jordan Gibbs on his outstanding play
in securing the championship. I look forward to joining the other top eleven finishers who will
represent the Philadelphia PGA at the 2017 PGA Professional Championship at Sunriver Resort in
Sunriver, Oregon next June.
Congratulations go out to Stu Ingraham for successfully defending his Philadelphia Senior PGA
Professional Championship title. Stu will be joined by the other top 8 finishers who will represent the
Philadelphia PGA at the 28th Senior PGA Professional National Championship at PGA National Golf Club
in Port St. Lucie, FL November 17 – 20, 2016. Congratulations go out to all of our tournament winners
this past season and to all of our members who took time out of their busy schedules to participate in
supporting of our fantastic program.
Finally, I would like to thank our tournament committee, Geoff, and our entire tournament staff for
their hard work and dedication in ensuring the best possible program we can provide. If you have any
questions or concerns regarding our tournament program or suggestions on how we can improve,
please do not hesitate to reach out to me or a member of the tournament committee.
As another season comes to a close, I hope you are able to enjoy some quality time with family and
friends as you prepare for the 2017 season ahead. Now is the time to take a deep breath and reflect
on how fortunate we are to do what we love for a living. During the long hours and stresses of the
season this can sometimes get lost. I urge you to take advantage of the down time to spend time with
your families and those most important in your lives. I wish you all the best for a relaxing off season!

2016 Fall Meeting
Vice Presidents Report
Financial – As Vice President I would like to thank my fellow Executive committee members and
Board of Directors for their time and dedication to making sound financial decisions for the
Section. We have occupied our home site for almost 4 years now. Our home site has been a
tremendous addition to our assets. If you haven’t already done so, please stop in and get a quick
tour. This is your association’s office and you are always welcome. Our Junior Department
continues to prosper, with over 800 members for the fourth year in a row – actually cresting to
slightly over 900 in 2016. To all of you that have hosted junior events, thank you. It is an
important investment in the future of golf.
The Executive Committee will continue to make investments back into our business in an effort to
provide education and member benefit opportunities. Additional ADP funding has allowed us to
highlight our members with additional promotion and marketing as well as growth of the game
initiatives. In 2016, this annual funding increased by $7,000 to a total of $160,746 and allowed us
to use more resources to continue and expand these programs. Please look for some exciting
education opportunities that we are planning in November, 2016. As of 8/31/16 our total
restricted fund balance was $522,982. $389,776 remains in our Haverford portfolio, while the
other $133,206 is part of the CD investment with Univest (formerly Valley Green Bank).
Club Relations Committee – Employment is a major concern of our Association. Your District
Directors are liaisons to the committee, along with PGA of America Employment Consultant,
Jonathan Gold, PGA. The intent of our District Directors is to create a line of communication from
our PGA Professionals within their districts, provide educational opportunities and attend Section
and Chapter meetings in their district. Along with our lead man Geoff Surrette, the committee
works together to further enhance any employment opportunities or issues that may arise.
Hall of Fame/Playing Legends – Traditional Hall of Fame inductions will rotate every other year
with the newly formed Playing Legends awards. 2015 saw the beginning of recognition of those
players who have excellent playing records and accomplishments in the Philadelphia Section. This
elite group was recognized at the 2015 Fall Meeting. 2016 will see the more traditional Hall of
Fame inductions and discussions are currently under way for inductee considerations.
I would like to give special thanks to the committee of Dick Smith, Sr., Jack Connolly, Leo Degisi,
Harry Hammond, Henry McQuiston, John Poole, Mike Cole, Pete Micklewright, John Pillar, Geoff
Surrette, Sue Unger and Pete Trenham for their dedication and hard work to this committee.
Respectfully submitted,
John Rogers, PGA
Vice President
2016 Fall Meeting
President’s Report
Dear Members,
I hope this message finds you well after a successful season both on and off the golf course. I look
forward to seeing you all at the Fall Meeting on October 31st at White Manor CC. The season has
flown by and the Section has been busy with tournaments, junior tournaments, administering
Drive, Chip & Putt events, administrating Junior League golf, education seminars, and consumer
events and making sure your Section is in good financial standing.
We will be welcoming President Derek Sprague, PGA as our keynote speaker at our Fall Meeting.
Mr. Sprague has graciously also agreed to join us Sunday evening, October 30th at Aronimink GC to
host a smaller group and field any questions or concerns that you may have regarding our
association.
What follows are some highlights of our Section since last year’s Fall Meeting.
Tournaments – We have had a successful 2016 tournament season, highlighted by the 2016
Philadelphia Section PNC. The Philadelphia Cricket Club and Jim Smith, Jr. served as the perfect
hosts for the event. Special congratulations to Jordon Gibbs (Gulph Mills) for a stellar 11-under
par performance, and congratulations to all of our qualifiers – we have no doubt you will
represent the Section well in Oregon next year.
Junior Golf Program – The junior golf program continues to thrive in the Philadelphia Section PGA.
In addition to administering over 80 regular junior events, the schedule included 9 Drive, Chip &
Putt events. The membership numbers crested at just over 900 in the 2016 season. Kudos go to
Brian Schulte and Bobby Howie for their unwavering leadership and commitment to growing the
game of golf. Thank you to all of the facilities that hosted these events – without your hospitality,
this program would not be possible. PGA Junior League Golf also contributed to the junior golf
initiatives at many of your facilities. Leila Mackie was the key contact for this program at the
Section office. The number of participating teams grew to 117 – up from 90 in 2015 and 55 in
2014. If you haven’t already offered this at your club, please consider it in 2017. It can be a
significant revenue producer, both to the individual PGA members and to the club in terms of food
and beverage, guest fees and equipment purchases.
Education- The Section offered quite a few education opportunities in 2016, spreading them out
geographically for the convenience of our membership. All of the District Directors held at least
one cracker barrel to open up discussions in their districts. A Fall Summit is currently in the works
on November 14th & 15th at Chester Valley GC. This 2-day event will host a number of great topics
and speakers, each day will have a keynote instruction portion along with additional professional
development conversations.
Player Development/Consumer Events – 2016 presented many volunteer opportunities for our
members. Beginning with the Northcoast Golf Show in February and throughout the season at the
Phillies Game, NEPA Golf Expo, YMCA Healthy kids day, LPGA Shoprite, Sr. Constellation and PGA
Hope programs – there were many occasions to showcase your value and skills as PGA
Professionals. These events rely on the participation of YOU, the member, and we hope that we
can count on you now and in the future to play your part in giving back to the game and
supporting critical initiatives that help our communities.
Financial – The Section continues to be healthy financially. The restricted market value was
approximately $517,000 at the end of the 2nd quarter. A major change to the financial software
was implemented in early March and we are continuing to strive to have timely, accurate financial
reports each month.
In closing, I would like to thank our entire team at the Section office – they continue to serve our
members, the community who wish to learn about the game and tournament players who already
play the game, all with a smile and a desire to please. On behalf of our entire membership –
THANK YOU! I would also be remiss if I did not say a heartfelt THANK YOU to our sponsors, for
without their partnership we would be unable to operate so many of our programs. They are a
critical component of our success and we should all remember that when we are paid a visit by
them or have an opportunity to see them at educational or tournament events.
Best of luck to all for a productive off-season. If we can ever do anything to make your
membership more enjoyable please do not hesitate to reach out personally.
Respectfully submitted,
Ian R. Dalzell, PGA
