A Circular Walk on
Wholestone Hill
Start: Quebec Road - off New Hey Road
This walk is fully waymarked by the distinct
White Rose Forest waymarkers.
Go through the metal gate just before the stone house at Quebec and
follow the path up hill with the fence then wall on your right. Cross the
fence by a wooden stile then to walk the circular in a clockwise
direction, bare left and then up through the oak plantation. Continue to
the top of the hill following the waymarkers, crossing two ladder stiles
to arrive at the engraved standing stone. At this point you can stop to
admire the view and identify landmarks from the interpretation
board.
Follow the track to a metal gate. Cross the two stiles on your
left. Continue to follow the track with the fence on your right.
Go through a gap in the wall. Continue to follow track with
motorway to your left and wall on your right. Now follow the
fence as the track bends to the right. Cross the fence by a stile
and follow wall on your left. Turn right to cross the field to the
mast then go over a stone stile to follow a well-defined track. Note
the good view of Blackmoorfoot Reservoir.
Turn right to go over a wooden stile, with the mast still on your right.
Cross the field, staying close to the fence on your left. Go through a
wooden gate, to follow the path (wall on left, fence on right) to pass
the quarry which is being landscaped.
The path now begins to descend. Cross a wooden stile, keeping the
wall on your left. At the bottom of the hill cross a further wooden stile
to retrace your steps back to Quebec Road - the starting point.
This short walk will probably take between 30-45 minutes.
