Pasting from Microsoft Word - IT Training - IU IT Training

Pasting from Microsoft Word
Copying from Microsoft Word and pasting into the Oncourse text editor can lead to formatting issues and garbled text.
Here are a few tips to avoid trouble.
Pasting correctly from Microsoft Word
When composing text to be used within an Oncourse tool, many users prefer to use Microsoft Word initially, then cut and
paste from the Word document into the Oncourse text editor. This process usually works well. Occasionally, the text pasted
from Word into the Oncourse text editor loses its original formatting and/or includes long lines of garbled text. To avoid this,
follow these directions:
1. Highlight the text you have created in Word.
2. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C (Command + C on a Mac) to copy the text to the clipboard.
In this example, we’ll use the Assignments tool, but these steps work in any rich-text editor in Oncourse.
3. Click View Details and Submit under the title of an Assignment that is open for submission.

4. Click in the textbox labeled ‘Submission Text.’
Look for the Paste from Word icon in the toolbar across the top.
5. Click the Paste from Word icon. See Figure 1.
The Paste dialog box appears.
Note: This may be different depending on which internet browser you are using. If you are using Internet Explorer, you will
have a dialog box pop up asking to allow the browser to access the clip board. If you allow it to have access then this box
will not appear, your test will just be pasted. If you don’t allow the browser access then the Paste dialog box will appear.
