Dispercoll® U Polyurethane Dispersions
Dispercoll® U dispersions are aqueous, anionic dispersions of high molecular weight polyurethanes designed for adhesive
applications. Products are available with crystalline or amorphous backbones. The Dispercoll® U products do not contain
co-solvents and may be blended to optimize performance. The dispersions are supplied at a pH of ~7.
Crystalline Dispercoll® U resins are distinguished by rapid development of bond strength and are most often used in
the heat activation bonding process. This involves warming the dry non-tacky adhesive film above its minimum activation
temperature before bonding. Bond strength increases rapidly as the adhesive layer cools and recrystallizes. The amorphous
dispersions exhibit room temperature tack and are especially useful for the lamination of flexible films. Dispercoll® U is frequently
used in conjunction with water-dispersible polyisocyanate crosslinkers such as Bayhydur® or Desmodur® for improved
performance.
Typical Market Applications
These high performance raw materials can be used in the formulation of adhesives for use in the Furniture, Automotive interior,
Textile, Footwear, Construction and Flexible Packaging markets. Dispercoll® U resins also comply with 21 CFR 175.105 (adhesives).

Desmocoll® Polyurethanes for Solvent-based Adhesives
Desmocoll® products are hydroxyl-terminated high molecular weight polyurethanes specifically developed for the
production of solventborne adhesives and are supplied as small granules. They are based on polyester polyols and aromatic
isocyanates. Desmocoll® grades differ in their crystallization rate, heat resistance, adhesion to specific substrates and their
solution viscosity.
Adhesives based on Desmocoll® are most often used in the heat activation bonding process which involves warming the
dry non-tacky adhesive film above its minimum activation temperature before bonding. Bond strength rapidly increases as
the adhesive layer cools. Desmocoll® produces optimum performance when used in conjunction with Desmodur® R
polyisocyanates.
Typical Market Applications
Desmocoll® polyurethanes are suitable for the formulation of adhesives for use on a variety of materials, e.g., leather, rubber, textiles, wood, many plastics (including PU elastomers), plastic films and aluminum foils. The Desmocoll® 400 and 500 series products enable

Polyether Polyols for Reactive Adhesives
Multranol®, Arcol® and Acclaim® polyether polyols are raw materials for the preparation of isocyanate prepolymers or to
formulate two-component reactive adhesives. The amine-based Multranol® polyols promote fast gel times and the build-up
of high crosslink density. Arcol®, Multranol® and Softcel® specialty polyols have a lower molecular weight and are particularly
useful for adhesive applications. Acclaim® polyols have a true functionality of two or three and are preferred polyols for
prepolymer synthesis. Flexible polyols are suitable for general purpose applications.

Polychloroprene
Dispercoll® C Polychloroprene Dispersions
Dispercoll® C latices can be used in the formulation of water-based contact cements. Adhesives based on Dispercoll® C 74
exhibit a long open tack time and high heat resistance. Dispercoll® C 84 has a strong crystallization tendency and produces
adhesives that rapidly develop bond strength. It is particularly suited for foam bonding applications that require “fast breaking”
performance. Dispercoll® C VP LS 2372/1 has a low rate of crystallization and yields adhesives with a very long open time
and can be blended with other Dispercoll® C products to improve wet tack. Dispercoll® C 2325 is a fast-crystallizing product
with improved pH stability. The heat resistance and wet bond strength of formulations based on Dispercoll® C 2325 are
improved when compounded with Dispercoll® S silica sol. Dispercoll® C dispersions are fully compatible and can be blended
to optimize performance for specific applications.
Adhesives based on Dispercoll® C are often formulated with tackifier emulsions, derived from rosin derivatives, hydrocarbon
resins, or terpene phenolic resins and are used to modify open tack time, heat resistance and specific adhesion properties.
An antioxidant in emulsion form is normally added to improve aging properties.
Properly formulated Dispercoll® C can be used as a substitute for solventborne contact adhesives while maintaining excellent
performance and improving environmental and worker safety issues.
Typical Markets
The rapid development of bond strength is ideal for furniture foam bonding applications and adhering decorative laminates (e.g.,
kitchen counters). Adhesives can be formulated for application in the Automotive, Textile, Footwear, Construction, DIY and general
purpose market.

Dispercoll® S Nano Silica Additives
Dispercoll® S grades are anionic colloidal solutions of amorphous silicon dioxide that can be formulated with Dispercoll® C
to provide unique property improvements. Compounded adhesives show increases in heat resistance and initial wet bond
strength. Dispercoll® S is also valued as a thickening agent and will allow viscosity adjustments over a wide range. Property
enhancements are most prominent when used with Dispercoll® C 2325.

Baypren® Polychloroprene Rubber
Solventborne contact adhesives based on Baypren® polychloroprene have a long history of producing high performance
adhesives that develop quick “grab” and form durable bonds. Baypren® polychloroprene is supplied as flat talc powdered
chips to maintain free flowing properties.
Adhesives using the fast-crystallizing grades of the Baypren® 300 series demonstrate high initial bond strength and a fast
curing rate. The grades of the Baypren® 200 series have a medium rate of crystallization and are especially useful when
extended open tack times are required and optimum development of bond strength is not of major importance.
Baypren® adhesives are formulated by the addition of alkyl phenolic or terpene phenolic resins, antioxidants and metal oxides
to address application-specific requirements.
Baypren® polychloroprenes are soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons, as well as blends of aromatic
and aliphatic hydrocarbons with and without the addition of esters or ketones. They are insoluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons
(hexane), acetone and ethyl acetate.
Typical Markets
Baypren® has excellent contact bonding qualities that are particularly attractive for adhering roofing membranes and building panels
for the Construction market. These adhesive raw materials are also used for bonding high pressure laminates (e.g., kitchen counter
tops) and in Automotive and Footwear (sole bonding) applications.
