The newly elected Squawkers (Buzzard cheerleaders) came up with a very unique and creative cheer that they performed to all of the Buzzards. The elections were followed by the singing of the Buzzard tribal songs and pictures of the new officers and the Buzzard’s as a tribe. All Buzzards, the red, the blue, and the black, left the meeting content in their choice of officers and excited for the remainder of Second Term. Camera! Camp! By Kendall H At the ring of the bugle, all the campers eagerly scrambled to Ora Johnson. Yells and shouts of excitement ripped across camp just as the first song began to play. Katie, with the help of several amazing counselors and campers, set up the snow cones and s’mores for all to munch on. Lucky for us, our awesome photographer Elizabet set up a projector. All the campers jumped and danced like crazy while watching and listening to music videos projected on a large white screen. Many fun, trendy, hit songs played such as “Problem” by Ariana G, “22” by Taylor Swift, and “All the Single Ladies” by Beyonce. This fun, thrilling night was concluded with the song “Turn Down for What” by DJ Shake and Lil’ Wayne. Sarah M, Comanche low senior exclaimed, “It was so much fun! I got down with the music!” Tejas intermediate Meagan E commented, “The music videos were fun and got everyone to sing along.” Riddle of the Week: What belongs to you but is used more by others? Answer: your name 5 6 Sunday, July 20, 2014 The Waldemar War Whoop First Tribal Hill - Second Term Aztec Tribal Hill This past Thursday, all Aztecs met at the rock wall dressed in their whites. For the newest Aztecs this was their first time to join their tribal sisters on the sacred hill. First, on lower hill, the first-year campers were introduced to their tribal big sisters. Then, Head Cheerleader, Henley F, and Activities Chairman, Kaki D, announced the weekly awards. Eloise F was awarded High Point Junior with Princess Win-Em-All and High Point Intermediate was given to Margaret K. In closing, Kaki D shared with us the next week’s activities. Upon upper hill, Mackie G, Aztec Leader, dedicated the hill to the Aztec tribe and our five ideals: aspiration, zeal, teamwork, enthusiasm, and courtesy. Cate L, Maddie B, Olivia R, Abigail B, Wren D, Sally W, Cameron T, Lindsay L, and Margeaux M discussed the importance of the ideals and their meanings. Elizabeth C, Lauren P, Mackie G, and Gracie W described goals and promises that Aztecs should uphold for a rewarding start to the summer. Then officers were called forward to receive their bracelet or bib as sponsors Katie R, Lauren B, and Megan P welcomed them. Cypress Bearers were awarded to Virginia S and Wren D, and Margeaux M received Cypress Girl award. Rock the Boat Zuma Award was given to Claire A, PAA Softball award to Lanny R and the spirit stick went to Cameron T. After arrow awards, everyone joined in the friendship circle as Nicole B gave the closing prayer. Finally, Mackie G led the toasts to the Comanches, Tejas, Sponsors and together we sang Taps. This first Aztec tribal hill was a great start to what will be a wonderful, green summer. With love, Vaughn S, Aztec Scribe Comanche Tribal Hill On Thursday, for the first time this term, the Comanches began to climb to our sacred hill. Our night began on lower hill at Tejas Chapel. Through paired song lyrics, Natalie R, Activities Chairman, creatively introduced the excited new Comanches to their big sisters. Our Head Cheerleader, Chloe R, distributed the sunshine awards to each Comanche all dressed in white. Emily G, Choral director, led our tribe in singing the toasts to the Aztec and Tejas tribes. Finally we began our long-awaited hike to upper hill while chanting “Climb, climb, silently, the Comanches, the Comanches.” On top of the hill, Alanna F lit the first torch welcoming our tribe back onto the hill. Mimi S lit a torch to past and future Comanches and her sister, Dylan S, lit a torch to health. Kristin B lit a torch to service and Anna S lit a torch to friendship. Bibs and bracelets were then distributed to our newly appointed officers. Alanna F continued by announcing our weekly awards. Our High Point Junior was awarded to Eliza S, High Point Intermediate to Mia L, the megaphone was given to Katie N, the spirit stick was awarded to Isabel O, and Chloe D received Rockpile Leader. The Big Ben War Canoe Paddle was given to 3rd bow Dylan S and Grace P and our softball award to Caroline H. Paige H recited our Rockpile speech before we sang “Pass it on” while placing our candles on the sacred rockpile. Alanna F and Jordan H, said the Rockpile poem and Elle S and Isabelle O said Squish’s Prayer. Our hill concluded with us traditionally singing the Comanche Tribal Song and Taps. With our hearts full of Comanche love, we hiked down after a wonderful hill, the first of four in 2014. With lots of Comanche love, Margaret M, Comanche Scribe Tejas Tribal Hill This past Thursday, the Tejas met at the basketball courts in their whites to climb the Tejas tribal hill. This would be a first for all the new Tejas members. Each member during their climb walks with either their older and/or younger sister until they reached lower hill. Once there, the girls sat down to listen to Margeaux B, Choral Director, sing the toasts. Next, Sara Beth S, Activities Chair, informed everyone about the upcoming events. Upper hill started with Katie C welcoming the Tejas with an opening prayer. Then followed Helen Y and Megan M with an amazing poem asking God for help. Next, Caroline S, Medora L, and Madeleine J lit the three symbolic fires of loyalty, sportsmanship and friendship. After, the Tejas read the sacred will. The 2014 Tejas officers then received their bib or bracelet. The sponsors spoke after, welcoming all the Tejas and then the weekly traditional awards were presented. The Outstanding Junior went to Emily L, the Outstanding Intermediate went to Megan M, and Libby H received the spirit stick. The Purple “T” went to Anna P and Kendall H was recognized as Memory Candlelight Girl. Julia D received the War Canoe Paddle and Ally F received the softball award. Tejas Tribal Hill was closed by a prayer spoken by Renee R and the Tejas friendship circle. Lastly, the Tejas climbed down the hill from a great start of a purple summer. Power to the purple! Buzzards Of The Week: Andie M & Danielle L This week’s buzzard of the week was awarded to two counselors: Andie M and Danielle L. As her fellow counselors pointed out, Andie is always so helpful and has a positive attitude out on the archery range. Similar compliments were said about Danielle; she has been working so hard with her new classes and tries her hardest to be enthusiastic and get to know all the girls that she is surrounded by. Congrats buzzards! 9 10 Sunday, July 20, 2014 Summer Singers Rock Wednesday night opened with the usual picnic and plenty of time to talk with friends. Most kept themselves occupied while the anticipation for the concert began to build. The fun was introduced as soon as the Summer Singers opened with a cover of the uplifting song “Happy” by Pharell Williams. The opening piece allowed campers and counselors the opportunity to let loose as it also set the mood for the rest of the performance. The group kept everyone on their feet (and even some in the air) by playing some of the camp’s favorite songs. Their variety ranged from old school hits to modern pop music. While appealing to almost everyone, this group has never let us down with their performances. Over all, this night was a complete success.
