Extreme Birthday Parties
American birthday parties are changing. Many children are
celebrating with extreme birthday parties.
Daniela lives in Austin, Texas. She’s twelve years old on 10
September. She is very excited. She’s having an Extreme Trampoline
party at Urban Air Gym. It’s a gymnastics center with lots of different
trampolines. They can also swing on the trapeze and play in the
Bouncy Castle! After, they can enjoy the birthday cake in the Party
Room.
Ryan likes in Waukesha, Wisconcin. His birthday is next month, in November. He’s going to be thirteen
years old. He is having a Ninja birthday at American Dojo. The teachers there teach them karate. Then,
Ryan and his friends can fight each other with foam weapons. It doesn’t hurt because the swords are soft!
They can shoot each other with Nerf guns, and they can also break wooden boards. Afterwards, Ryan can
open his presents with his friends.
Riley lives in Chicago, Illinois. Her birthday is on 23 February.
He’s going to be fourteen years old. He’s going to iFly Center,
and go indoor skydiving. He has to wear a helmet and special
clothes. The special shirt and pants help you fly. After, Riley and
his friends are having pizza in the Party Room.

Important Birthdays
Some cultures celebrate special birthdays. In China, a baby’s first birthday is very important. Different
objects are put in front of the baby, like a baby doll, coins, or a book. They believe when the baby touches
an item that can tell their future; for example, touching coins means getting lots of money.
In Japan, a child’s third, fifth, and seventh birthday are special. They wear special clothes called kimono.
The children will celebrate together on 15 November. They go to a special festival called the San-Go-Shichi
Festival (3 – 5 – 7 Festival).
In Mexico, a girl’s fifteenth birthday is important. She has a special party
called a ‘quinceanera’. She will wear a beautiful dress, and the all her
friends and family come. There is lots of music, games, food, and
presents.
In Korea, a baby’s 100th day is important. The family comes and has a
party. Everyone eats special cake called ‘paegil’. It is made from red or
black beans and honey. Everyone gives the baby a small present, like a
toy or money.
In Holland, the fifth, tenth, and fifteenth birthdays are important.
Children get a large gift for these birthdays. It is unlucky to receive a
present in black and white paper.
