School District of Whitefish Bay 1200 East Fairmount Avenue Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin 53217 April 18, 2016 Press Release School District of Whitefish Bay Names New Activities Director Superintendent Dr. John Thomsen and High School Principal Amy Levek are excited to announce that Mr. Jason Kasmarick has been selected as the new Activities Director for Whitefish Bay High School. Pending School Board approval of his contract, Mr. Kasmarick will officially begin this role on July 1, 2016, but hopes to find an opportunity this spring to attend an event or two in order to meet students, staff, parents and community members. Mr. Kasmarick currently serves as the Secondary Teaching & Learning Specialist, AP European History Teacher, AVID Elective Teacher, and Reading Interventionist in the Elmbrook School District. Mr. Kasmarick has ties to our district as a resident in Whitefish Bay and his own kids will attend our schools. Mr. Kasmarick began his career in Kettle Moraine as an 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher. In 2002, Mr. Kasmarick was hired by the Elmbrook School District to teach Social Studies at Brookfield East High School where he has been professionally engaged for the past 14 years. “Coach Kaz” has served in multiple supporting roles within Brookfield East High School as the current Boys Co-Head Cross Country Coach, Associate Head Boys Track & Field Coach, and previously as a Football Coach. Mr. Kasmarick has worked in several administrative leadership instructional related teams such as the AVID Site Team Member & Elective Teacher, Literacy TA Team Member, Hiring Committee Member, and as an interim Associate Principal. Mr. Kasmarick received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee and a master’s degree in the Educational Policy & Leadership Program from Marquette University. He currently holds the following Department of Public Instruction (DPI) licenses: Principal (PK-12), Broad Field Social Studies (6-12), and History (6-12). Of 48 applicants, Mr. Kasmarick rose to the top of the candidate pool. Through multiple interviews, staff and community members found Mr. Kasmarick to be relatable, motivating, thoughtful, balanced, and passionate about both academics and activities/athletics. His skills and experiences mirror those the staff and parents noted as desirable in the Activities Director Profile Survey. As one colleague indicated, “We'd absolutely miss him here at East as I can't even begin to tell you how much of a tremendous loss he'd be, but you won't find a better administrator or, more importantly, person than Jason Kasmarick.” The School Board will act on Mr. Kasmarick’s contract on April 27th. Mr. Kasmarick replaces John “Gus” Gustavson, who will be retiring from his Activities Director position after 13 years of dedicated service.
