Entering their sophomore year Andrew Cunningham, Antoine Watson, Marvin Roberts, Hamilton Nash, Vincent Talbot and Norman Primous will be counted on for leadership, scoring and defense. Andrew ´Webbµ Cunningham is a lightning TuicN point guard who will Àll up the assist column. Antoine “Toine” Watson who, with his ability to score and defend multiple positions, will be one of the most versatile guards in the country. Hamilton “Ham” Nash is a natural athlete capable of playing either forward spots, rebounding and knocking down open jump shots. He will leave it on the Áoor every game. Marvin “Marv” Roberts can Áat out score with the best of them and will also provide highlight dunks this season for Cougar fans. Vincent “LA” Talbot will provide help at the point and off guard spot and is a dead-eye shooter as well. Norman “Norm” Primous is a tall, athletic, defensive minded player who guards all Àve positions and buries it from long range. He will be an energy and defensive spark plug to the team. Along with the sophomores, freshman Kevin Rolland will be counted on to knock down open shots and guard. Matt Mobley will contribute in the rotation with his athleticism and defense. Brandon Cain, whose hard work and great attitude is well respected amongst his peers, will garner time at all positions on the court. Zach Hunter, a tough player who doesn’t back down, will be looked upon for his toughness. Rounding out the freshman class is Matt Washington who will provide much needed front court help for the Cougars. The men’s basketball program under Àrst-year Head Basketball Coach Yaphett King will be looking to play an up-tempo, fast style of basketball that will highlight the strength’s of this Redlands team scoring from the wings. Marvin Roberts and Antoine Watson head a big time scoring attack from the wings with their size and athleticism. Hamilton Nash will dominate the glass, knocking down jumpshots. Andrew Cunningham will dish out assists and Matt Washington’s scoring down low should make the 08-09 Cougars a lot of fun to watch. 4 Redlands Basketball 2008-2009 Yaphett King Men’s Head Coach <DSKHWW .LQJ HQWHUV KLV ¿UVW \HDU DV KHDG FRDFK RI WKH5HGODQGV&RPPXQLW\&ROOHJH&RXJDUV.LQJLVQR VWUDQJHUWRWKHSURJUDPKHEHJDQKLVSOD\LQJFDUHHU DW5HGODQGVLQZKHUHKHKHOSHGOHDG5HGODQGV WRDQDWLRQDOWLWOHZLWKDUHFRUG³7KDWZDVRQH RIWKHEHVWH[SHULHQFHVRIP\OLIH´.LQJVDLG)URP WKHUHKHKHOSHGOHDG5HGODQGVWRDELVWDWHWLWOHDQG DQ DSSHDUDQFH DW WKH QDWLRQDO WRXUQDPHQW ZLWK D UHFRUGRI &RDFK .LQJ ZHQW WR &DO6WDWH )XOOHUWRQ ZKHUH KH KHOSHGWDNHWKH7LWDQVWRSRVWVHDVRQSOD\IRUWKH¿UVW WLPH LQ \HDUV E\ DGYDQFLQJ WR WKH 6ZHHW RI WKH 1DWLRQDO ,QYLWH 7RXUQDPHQW &RDFK .LQJ SOD\HG SURIHVVLRQDOO\ LQ $XVWULD ZKHUH KLV WHDPHG PRYHG IURP WKH VHFRQG GLYLVLRQ WR ¿UVW GLYLVLRQ DQG ZRQ WKH PLGGOH SOD\RIIV $IWHU SOD\LQJ SURIHVVLRQDOO\ .LQJ FDPH EDFN DQG DVVLVWHG WKH 5HGODQG¶V 0HQV%DVNHWEDOOWHDP7KH\¿QLVKHGWKHVHDVRQDV UHJLRQDOUXQQHUXSKDGDVHDVRQDQGVDZVHYHQ SOD\HUV JR WR GLYLVLRQ RQH SURJUDPV 7KH IROORZLQJ \HDU<DSKHWWDFFHSWHGDQDVVLVWDQWFRDFKLQJSRVLWLRQ DW&RZOH\&ROOHJHLQ.DQVDV+LVUHFRUGZDVLQ URXWHWRWKHUHJLRQDOFKDPSLRQVKLSJDPH ³%HFRPLQJWKHKHDGFRDFKDW5HGODQGVZDVVRPHWKLQJ WKDW , DOZD\V ZDQWHG WR GR DQ\WLPH \RX KDYH D FKDQFH WR WDNH RYHU \RXU DOPD PDWHU \RX ZDQW WR PDNHVXUH\RXGRWKHEHVWMRE\RXFDQDQGKRSHIXOO\ \RXFDQKDYHWKHVDPHVXFFHVVDVFRDFKDV\RXGLG DVSOD\HU´ 5 Redlands Basketball 2008-2009 Kenneth Gordon Assistant Coach &RDFK *RUGRQ LV LQ KLV VHFRQG \HDU DV DQ DVVLVWDQW FRDFK IRU 5HGODQGV &RPPXQLW\&ROOHJH*RUGRQLVDQDOXPRI6KDZ8QLYHUVLW\LQ5DOHLJK1RUWK &DUROLQD ,Q &RDFK *RUGRQ VHUYHG DV $WKOHWLF 'LUHFWRU DQG KHDG PHQ¶V EDVNHWEDOO FRDFK DW 0LOHVWRQH 3UHS $FDGHP\ ,W ZDV WKHUH WKDW KH OHGWKH+R\DVWRDUHFRUG)URP&RDFK*RUGRQZDVDWWKH SRZHUKRXVH/DXULQEXUJ,QVWLWXWHZKHUHKHOHGKLVWHDPVWRDUHFRUG RYHU¿YHVHDVRQV,QKLVWHQXUHDW/DXULQEXUJKHZRQVWDWHFKDPSLRQVKLSVLQ DQG*RUGRQDOVRZRQWKH&KDUWHU6FKRRO1DWLRQDO&KDPSLRQVKLS LQDQG*RUGRQKDVFRDFKHGLQWKH5DOHLJK¶V¿QHVW$$83URJUDP ZKHUH KLV WHDPV ZHUH UDQNHG DPRQJ WKH QDWLRQ¶V WRS WHDPV 'XULQJ KLV \HDUVZLWK/DXULQEXUJ,QVWLWXWHDQG5DOHLJK¶V$$83URJUDPKHZDVIRUWXQDWH WRFRDFK$QWKRQ\5LFKDUGVRQD0F'RQDOG¶V$OO$PHULFDQ5HJLV.RXQDLD 3DUDGH$OO$PHULFDQDQG0F'RQDOG$OO$PHULFDQQRPLQHHV 3ULRUWR*RUGRQ¶VVWLQWDW/DXULQEXUJKHVSHQWWKUHH\HDUVLQWKH8QLWHG6WDWHV%DVNHWEDOO/HDJXH86%/ ZKHUHKHVHUYHGDVDQDVVLVWDQWFRDFKDQGDOVRKHOSHGOHDGKLVWHDPWRQGSODFH¿QLVKHVLQ DQG7KH86%/ZDVWKHIHHGHUV\VWHPWRWKH1%$,Q&RDFK*RUGRQOHG%RQQHU$FDGHP\ WR EDFNWREDFN ZLQ VHDVRQV &RDFK *RUGRQ KDV FRPSLOHG D UHFRUG LQ HLJKW \HDUV RI KLJK VFKRROEDVNHWEDOO 6 Redlands Basketball 2008-2009 Eli Zucksworth Athletic Trainer 6HFRQG \HDU 5HGODQGV &RPPXQLW\ &ROOHJH +HDG $WKOHWLF 7UDLQHU (OL =XFNVZRUWKLVUHVSRQVLEOHIRUSUHSDULQJWKHDWKOHWHVIRUERWKSUDFWLFHDQG JDPHVZKLOHWUHDWLQJRQVLWHLQMXULHV (OLLVDPHPEHURIWKH1DWLRQDO$WKOHWLF7UDLQHUV$VVRFLDWLRQ1$7$DQGWKH 2NODKRPD$WKOHWLF7UDLQHUV$VVRFLDWLRQ+HLVDJUDGXDWHRI2NODKRPD 6WDWH8QLYHUVLW\ZKHUHKHHDUQHGKLVEDFKHORU¶VGHJUHHLQDWKOHWLFWUDLQLQJ ,QKHUHFHLYHGKLV0DVWHURI(GXFDWLRQGHJUHHIURP6RXWKHDVWHUQ 2NODKRPD6WDWH8QLYHUVLW\ 7 Redlands Basketball 2008-2009 Men’s Basketball Team and Roster # Name Position Year HT WT Hometown 00 01 03 04 05 10 11 14 15 20 22 23 33 34 45 Vincent Talbot Antoine Watson Matthew Mobley Antonio Cooper Brandon Cain Andrew Cunningham Marvin Roberts Zach Hunter Matthew Washington Hamilton Nash Jamelle Hays Jeremy McCarty Kevin Rolland Norman Primous Julian Robinson Guard Guard Guard Forward Guard Guard Guard Guard Forward Forward Forward Guard Guard Guard Forward Sophomore Sophomore Freshman Sophomore Sophomore Sophomore Sophomore Freshman Freshman Sophomore Freshman Sophomore Freshman Sophomore Sophomore 6’2 6’4 6’2 6’10 6’2 6’0 6’5 6’2 6’10 6’7 6’7 6’6 6’2 6’5 6’8 160 230 195 235 185 155 210 180 240 215 205 220 185 190 215 Los Angeles, Calif.
