Odysseus' Four Part Plan
Odysseus was not only a man, but
also a warrior. He was one of the best and widely known men throughout all of Greece. He was the Ki
ng of Ithica. He left with his men hoping to win a war, but the troubles he would face would be far
greater than ever imaginable. He encountered Monsters, Gods, and many other Mythology legends. In th
e end he would lose everything he had but the dream of returning home to his son and wife. The first
part of Odysseus' plan was to meet the Cyclops and observe him. Once found out how powerful he was,
he would then make weapons strong enough to hold him off. All of his strategy was planned very care
fully. He always thought of the risks he put his men and self in. Unfortunately the Cyclops was not
very friendly at all. Any man he could catch, he would rip apart and devour. He noticed that the Cyc
lops was not very smart, so when Odysseus was asked his name he replied, Nohbdy. Once he had observe
d the Cyclops. He thought of what his weaknesses might be. Then he soon remembered that he was a Cyc
lops! He only had one eye, which was his weakness. He quickly formed a plan of attack to escape. He
prayed the night before the attack for Athene, goddess of war, to send him something to use as a too
l to harm the gigantic beast. She sent him a giant log. From that, he made a weapon, a stake, to som
ehow blind his only eye. The next day, using the wine given to him by the former goddess he was with
, he planned to make the Cyclops drunk. Once the Cyclops was drunk, he stabbed the giant beast. When
the Cyclops screamed out in pain, other Cyclops came near to see what was wrong. When the Cyclops t
old them that Nohbdy had hurt him. They left thinking he meant NOBODY. From that Odysseus made his e
scape. On the way out he grabbed a ram to use as a sacrifice. It was not planned really, but he was
able to escape with a couple of his men as well. When Odysseus shoved the ram onboard, and told the
soldiers to row quickly, they knew something was wrong. So they did as they were told. Once they wer
e gone, the Cyclops knew who it was who had blinded him. A prophet had once told him that the great
warrior Odysseus would blind him. Odysseus had a plan to escape no matter the cost. He and his men h
ead on to the next adventure. Eventually it would lead him back home to his family, kingdom, and cou
ntry.
