7.2: Another example – use the slope and y

Homework 3.4 & 7.2 (Question # 6) Start at the y‐intercept, which is 2 (because y = mx + b ିଵ
(where m is the slope and b is the y‐intercept) and since y = x + b, b = 2) ଷ
If the y‐intercept is 2, that means there is a point at (0, 2), so this will be the first point we will plot with the line tool. Then, the slope = ௥௜௦௘

This means that once you have any point on the line, you will “rise” or go DOWN (because the 1 is negative – if it were positive we would go up) 1 unit and “run” or go to the right 3 units. (if it were a ‐3 we would go to the left 3). So, we will start by plotting (0,2) using the “line” tool in MML then go down 1 unit and to the right 3 units, which puts us at (1,3) so we plot another point there using the “line” tool in MML.
