Many are teaching their children in the heart of the family to aspire not to have more but to be more, not to want everything but to give generously to others. They are being educated to love. The family provides an education in loving, in giving oneself for the well-being of all and working for the common good. This is the beautiful Christian family life! This week we celebrated our Spring Fling for students in our education programs and their siblings. 60 children received a beach towel, sunglasses and a good book. Thirty adults joined them in reading to one another and in celebrating the joy and adventure of reading! We also are grateful for our friends at the Charlestown Elementary School Stride Program who have already provided new backpacks for some our graduates so that they will be well prepared for their further education in September. Let’s continue to try to follow Christ together. Let’s continue to try to build one community in His love. STAND UP FOR MARRIAGE WE NEED ACTION! WELCOME TO ST.AGNES FR. VARGHESE LOPEZ! Fr. ______________________________________ St. Agnes School News _______________________________________ Retirements at Saint Agnes School Friday, June 13, 2014 marked the end of an era at Saint Agnes Catholic School. Four dedicated people retired from St. Agnes after years of service to the Church and our school. We wish them well as they enter a new phase of life. We send our thoughts and prayers with them. We will miss them! Mrs. Nancy Anderson began her caring career at St. Agnes over twenty some years ago when she began working in our CARES program. Through the years, thousands of children spent time with her doing homework, playing games, laughing, reading, telling stories and more. Nancy is a role model, a dedicated worker, a caring friend, and a true supporter of Catholic education. She will be greatly missed at St. Agnes, but we know she will enjoy spending time with her beautiful grandchildren. Mrs. Marianne Korchynsky began volunteering at St. Agnes when her children were in school. She offered her expertise in art as a means of helping the school. In 1997 Mrs. Korchynsky was hired as the art teacher and so the story began. Marianne taught art so the children would not only be productive, but learn to love and appreciate beauty in art all around them. Through the years, Mrs. Korchynsky shared her considerable talent with the annual school play. Mrs. Korchynsky sketched out ideas for sets and helped the eighth grade class make them a reality. For many years, Mrs. Korchynsky was also the Faculty liaison to the Home & School Board and she volunteered her time on the Archdiocesan Art Curriculum Committee. Mrs. Patricia Sheppard joined the St. Agnes Faculty back in 1987 as our new sixth grade teacher. A few years later, Mrs. Sheppard moved from the regular classroom to teach in our computer room as the technology teacher and coordinator. Mrs. Sheppard not only taught the students, but she guided the teachers on technology journeys. Mrs. Sheppard led the technology team, coordinated the purchase of equipment, kept detailed records of purchases, quickly solved problems, answered questions and taught the students the most up-to-date lessons. When something went wrong with technology, Pat was on the job! Last year a student who was offering a suggestion, said, “Why don’t we just use our computer class to integrate all of the work and projects we have? Mrs. Sheppard already taught us everything!” What a testament! Mrs. Patricia Vrabel is a more recent addition to the St. Agnes Faculty as she taught here only thirteen years starting in 2001. During those years Mrs. Vrabel demonstrated her love of faith and the gift of life by helping fifth graders learn about all subjects, especially about being pro-life Catholics. Through Baby Showers for Moms and other service projects, Mrs. Vrabel helped her students to reach out to those in need. Each year Mrs. Vrabel took the fifth grade students to a shine to learn more about one of the great saints like St. John Neumann or St. Padre Pio. At our last Home & School Meeting on May 20th, students from first to fifth grade serenaded our retirees with a great song. Under the direction of Mrs. LeeAnne Hosking, the students sang, “When it comes to learning. They’re a true talented bunch, you know. Cos that’s the age of learning they ran! With oh, such style and flair! And the golden age of learning has lasted all these years. The golden age of learning that ev’ry child reveres! But soon they’ll be retiring to make way for someone new. No, no, no, no! No these ‘special’ people just can’t go! Happy retirement to you! May God continue to bless you with good health, happiness, and peace!
